2025/26 Tyler Dibling

….a little surprised he’s not playing the odd game for the U21s, maybe another sign that he’s struggling to settle.
I’m loathe to mention it, but Iroegbunam said he was the quietest player in the squad the other day, which adds fuel to the previous commentary he struggled to settle at Chelsea (I believe there were other mitigating circumstances there mind)
But I sincerely hope it’s just a young lad needing time to settle and not a deeper personality trait.
The money we spent on him when there were previous indications of him having a small comfort zone would suggest somebody in recruitment not doing their homework.

That McNeil played well is something we fundamentally disagree on.

Also, after the last few years of supporting this club, how anybody can think “proven PL experience” means even remotely what they think it does is madness to me. We have thrown so much progress away on the altar of players who “know the league” it’s pathetic.

Bournemouth were utterly toothless. We had the better, more productive possession but our final third choices and execution were horrible. Give me a raw 19yo with instructions to run at knackered defenders over McNeil - who, by the way also looks utterly bereft of any confidence - any day of the week.
The experience argument is often an excuse. It was often used by Dyche for playing Ashley Young despite his juvenile behavior like his laughable expulsion at Anfield. The only excuse for playing Dwight ahead of Tyler is to put Dwight in the shop window so that a desperate buyer like Wolves buy him.

Everything written/said about him at Southampton said he was exactly the same there though. He's just a very quiet kid. He could be entirely nonverbal for all I care lol

This is Moyes though, he even had Rooney on the bench at times, when he was our best player, played barkely twice and when he made a mistake, we never seen him again under Moyes.
Moyes isn’t the manager for Dibling

Yet apparently per the athletic (or joyce, ive forgotten), Moyes was the one pushing for him all the way.

Its so weird.

We saw in his play last season that when he has the ball he oozes quality and is very hard to get the ball off.

Because of his age, when Chelsea got him there was a period where he was 'with them' but not allowed to play.

He said himself that he didnt feel their setup was suited to his development compared with Southampton.

He's also from exeter, not southampton and played for England at u16, u17, u18, u19 and u21 level so its not as if he's got any issues with travel or integrating into new teams or systems.

McNeil is someone who we should use as a makeweight in a deal with Wolves (or another).

He’s a teenager, they either come as over confident or shy, you manage each of those things very differently to try and get the best out of them.

I’m sure we’ve all been teenagers having to go into an adult work place it can be daunting or had to help someone young and shy along at work.

Think it’s important not to label the lad.

…..apparently ‘failed to settle at Chelsea due to homesickness’.

I’ve mentioned it plenty, but the lad hardly appears on any of the clubs media clips/pics and hasn’t played U21 games, suggests to me the club are intentionally keeping him out of sight.

Posters very quick to blame Moyes but the club will use top sports psychologists and if the lad is struggling, I’m sure he’s doing exactly what’s being advised. Truth is, none of us know the situation.

Messi barely said a word til his mid 20s

…..Rooney was naturally shy, I don’t think it’s a matter of being introvert or extrovert, you can be either and still carry attitude and confidence once you get on a football pitch. Similarly, some will struggle to settle regardless of their persona.

He needs to be in a state of mind where he’s desperate to play, no idea if that’s the case at the moment. I think his Chelsea experience highlighted by @Bedfordblue is worth keeping in mind.

tbf he also said that they were all trying to bring him out of himself more.

takes two to tango tho obvs.

but in the end who cares if he prefers a quiet evening in with a book and a cup of chocolate, if he tears it up on the pitch...

Worth pointing out I think this is incorrectly thought of as just home sickness. He was there for weeks training by himself while the rest of the squad were away because of the timing and how buying youth players works, and basically ended up deciding the place wasn't for him before the actual transfer went through.

I don't think we can just leave the lad to his own devices. We're supposed to be a professional organisation, after all. I suggest bringing in Royston Drenthe as his off-field lifestyle coach, and Ferguson as on-field punching and head-butting guru. That should deffo sort young Tyler out.

….lets hope he’s being handled ideally here and it ultimately works out.

I think he should be playing, it's not like he hasnt got PL experience, he has a full year of it and did well, Everton cant be throwing 40 million at a player and having to hope things work out.
