Bollocks, growing up in single parent households is not something new and has nothing to do with carrying lethal weapons when you walk about the streets, you carry knives you should get 10 years mandatory, and give the police better stop and search powers to drill it in that carry a knife will ruin your life.

The negative effects of a child without a father can be seen in countless studies and reports. The statistics show the importance of a father figure in the majority of children's lives.

According to "What Can the Federal Government Do To Decrease Crime and Revitalize Communities?" from the U.S. Department of Justice, children from fatherless homes account for:

• Suicide: 63 percent of youth suicides
• Runaways: 90 percent of all homeless and runaway youths
• Behavioral Disorders: 85 percent of all children that exhibit behavioral disorders
• High School Dropouts: 71 percent of all high school dropouts
• Juvenile Detention Rates: 70 percent of juveniles in state-operated institutions
• Substance Abuse: 75 percent of adolescent patients in substance abuse centers
• Aggression: 75 percent of rapists motivated by displaced anger

It was just the callous indifference to what they’d done that really shocked me.

Apart from one lad, the rest didn’t seem the slightest bit bothered by the fact they’d butchered a young lad over a “ look “.

This was in Luton, not the bad parts of London too.

The ringleader was offering the armed police out, despite half a dozen guns being pointed at him !

Somehow there needs to be a way to get to these lads when they’re kids to stop them turning into monsters.

yep, i dont know why people think long sentences will help seeing as these kids are voluntarily getting involved in things that can actually kill them

Jail is the only answer, tougher sentences, because they are going around murdering and maiming, make it not worth the risk to your liberty to carry a knife in the first place in fear of a copper stopping you at any time and you getting 10 years for possession. The only reason this is not happening right now is the prisons are full, nobody, has any business carrying a knife, ever, make it more in line with carrying a gun.

Yes in a ideal utopian world we'd offer all single parent families a surrogate parent to go into the home and help teach them right from wrong, not going to happen is it, I knew kids in single parent families growing up, they didn't carry knives.

Toughen the Laws, send teams to do talks into every school in the UK twice a year to drill in the message that carrying a knife will ruin your life, you'll get 10 years for even carrying one.

Actually there is, between the wars knife crime was rife. Automatic 10yrs cut it right down pretty soon...I forget the Judge's name but he sorted them...the info is out there.

Take the most violent countries in the world, the highest murder rates, all with prison populations far higher than everyone. The deterrent does not work, remember Americas three strikes and you are out rule.....it didn't work.
