The better you do in the league, the more consistently you qualify for European competition, the bigger and more able your squad is and the more momentum you gain.

Whereas you win an FA Cup and you could just be a Wigan who got lucky once.

I always prefer the long term gain. You view it differently and that's fine.
correct.

Hahaha.
The more you qualify for european competition?
Your downplaying doing so for gods sake!

I'm not; I'm downplaying doing it while you don't have the squad or prestige to cope with it. If we broke the top four one year, built a squad up and finished in the Europa next season, that's progress and completely fine. The problem I have with qualifying and competing properly in the Europa League before breaking the top four is that it puts a barrier in your way for making that next jump.

Top 4 is still a long shot. But in the years to come I think we can close the gap and contend for that sort of finish.

Interesting this.

But its worth pointing out that Koeman left a club in Europe, for a club not in Europe, but want/need to be.

I am guessing that he is of the persuasion that if/when he gets us into Europe, then the squad he will have at his disposal is more than adequate to cope.

Alternative Facts mate.
Your changing your tune continuously.
One minute saying you dont wish to qualify for Europa league (a european competition) and the next saying to compete we need to gradually build, regularly qualifying for European competition.

Equally, your saying that finishing in the the top four and then finishing the following season in Europa is progress? Didnt you just say you wish to finish no 1 only?

Now we've cleared the deadwood and ridded the squad of it's Martinez influence I'd love a good summer and a free swing at the CL next year.

We wont be getting CL without tier 2 players, tier 2 player require Europe, we wont be getting CL without the big man upfront, the big man upfront requires Europe, we wont be getting CL without increase revenue, Europe increases revenue and exposure which in turn generates money.

Chicken and egg Ian.

Nah, I think his mindset is that the core is good, and Moshiri promised him resources that could vastly improve us.

And I think we can bring in players of a certain quality regardless of the Europa League. Like how we got Koeman, money talks - we allegedly have it. If West Brom were in the Europa League next season, we'd still blow them out of the water in terms of going for the same target.

We shall see how their form goes from here to the end of the season, playing once a week and we will see who is right.

Flag this.

Their form will pick up a bit mate, it couldn't get any worse frankly, but 100% they will get nowhere near the levels they did early season

and any upturn won't last that long either as it take more than missing a cup weekend to recharge players running on empty - which is what a huge amount of their players are atm

Klopps small squad playing at 110% every game has good points (fast start to the season - overwhelming teams who traditionally build to gain fitness and become stronger as the season progresses) - but unless you get far enough ahead of the others in which case momentum can carry you on past the point your fitness levels would normally allow, then your gonna face what they are now, did the analogy the other day, they are like a long distance runner who has tried to set off at a pace to break the rest of the field of runners, which when it works means you basically build a big lead and then can kinda coast to the finish whilst the others fight for the spots behind, when you try it and the other runners stick with you though then you end up finishing way down the list of runners

If i was a better then them finishing 7th or 8th wouldnt be a total shock for me

I can see the attractions BUT as every single one of our lads has stated they want European football, I think its fair to say that attracting players regularly to crack the top 4 will be difficult without European football. Leicester aside.

No see, I'm not - I'm saying I don't want the Europa League to be a distraction to the real goal of breaking the glass ceiling of the top four. Until we have a squad to passively cope with the Europa League, it is not worthwhile. That's my position and has been throughout - that the Europa League for Everton next year would be detrimental to our bigger aims.

Hardly likely to say they arent arsed about it though are they?
