Top Four Possibility

So you think it's worthwhile simply because if you win the whole thing, you get Champions League qualification, despite the whole tournament being polluted by the Champions League dropoffs entering late on and dominating the competition anyway?

That doesn't make sense to me, given the price of admission in terms of fixture congestion. But each to their own - everyone has very stubborn views on this. For me, if we were in the Europa League, I wouldn't be bothered about it beyond happily watching Everton on a Thursday and being annoyed when our legs go from January onwards if we commit the first team to it.

yet peple bemoaned us going out both cups early, depsite the fact they would have added a huge number of extra games for a lot less reward financially that this comp does.

How about this for a downside though?

Team Max. remaining games
Man Utd 31
Spurs 30
Arsenal 28
Man City 28
Chelsea 21
Liverpool 15

If you're chasing those clubs, what would you rather have - 15 games left, or 31 in all competitions to deal with?

Your rhetoric is based on teams vying for the title who are not in Euro competition. The majority of the six there are; taking away domestic cup games which are irrelevant when comparing Europa v Champions League and four of the six all have the same amount left do they not?

Equally; your rhetoric is flawed as those teams currently without Euro footie, Chelsea and Liverpool, are almost certainly going to have it next year and we dont see them crying about it.

Utd have 31 games left yet are 90 mins away from a trophy. Liverpool have 15 and are no where near a trophy.

Madness.

And if Wirope next season plays it's part in us not getting it the season after?

Liverpool could conceivably still get top 4 this season, yetvtheyve proved this month that they're not capable of playing two game in a week. So had they been in the EL from the get go I reckon you could drop them a couple of league places. So if I see it as an advantage to their current campaign I'd surely have to see it the same way for us next season? Liverpools last really good season came with no Europe too. At least the CL offers the riches for it to be worth it.

This post is an utter mess Ian.

Europa might keep Rom.

No mate, Liverpools form has gone off a cliff entirely down to having a manager too stubborn to realise that he can't play his system unaltered in this league without badly buring out - strangely if they wheer in europe hed porobably have had a larger squad and had to rotate more to deal with it and may have actually helped them in the league

Yeah but we can have a bigger squad to handle it. And with the amount of kids coming through, we wouldn't have to trot out the same 11 twice a week all the time.

I miss European games.

We shall see how their form goes from here to the end of the season, playing once a week and we will see who is right.

Flag this.

I'm talking about being in the optimum position to break that glass ceiling of the top four. Being distracted by the burden of the Europa League is not a part of that optimum scenario.

It's that simple for me. Unless you win the entire thing, I view the Europa League as not valuable - it's basically akin to buying a lottery ticket.

Well what happens when you cant win the league? What are your alternatives if you desire trophies?

The better you do in the league, the more consistently you qualify for European competition, the bigger and more able your squad is and the more momentum you gain.

Whereas you win an FA Cup and you could just be a Wigan who got lucky once.

I always prefer the long term gain. You view it differently and that's fine.

You could label that at any competition.

Didnt Spurs break the top four in the same season as getting to quarter final/semi final of domestic cups?

If that is the optimum position then why is it the usual four or five suspects every year bar last season?

In fairness, the games against Wolves and Plymouth used hardly any first teamers.
I think it's as much what your inferring as it is that he didn't have the time to plan and implement tactics for the next league game.

Like I say, they play Saturday then they have 16 days off then they'll be playing once a week, I think they'll finish strong, much like us.

Someone asked the other day for the European fixture dates to see if any of our remaining games (Spurs, Utd and Arsenal) followed a midweek fixture, someone then put up all the dates, that was clearly being discussed as we were hoping it may gain us an advantage.
