It was hardly 'appalling'. It was a bang, bang play...he was level, but in real time he looked offside. He'd been caught offside at least 4 other times, so not surprised.

exactly. think fans should cut assistants some slack when there's millimeters in it. there's all the technology there to help them in such instances. the games going to be stopped one way or another in 2 seconds time, so why can't they check things? the amount of injury feigning, time wasting and stoppages because of over-fussy refs and yet we can't bring technology in because "it will slow the game down".

everyone involved with football love to berate officials, no wonder their standards are so poor - it's a job not many want to do. you get nearly every throw in where both players appeal, whoever it goes against volleys abuse at the official then even when they know deep down they've got the decision right anyway.

i can imagine offside decisions are hardly the easiest thing in the world because you have to keep one eye on when the ball is passed and also an eye in a totally different place to look if they're offside. of course you're going to get mistakes when there's millimetres in it at high speed.

appalling is not the right choice of word.

This is what i mean.

Of course it was close, they were level, doesn't get much closer. A linsman has to keep an eye on the ball to see when it's played, an eye on the position of the last defender and nearest attacker, and other players on the pitch as well in case a foul is commited. And now apparently he has to look at the 18 yard line.

Add to that the movement of the defender and attacker going in different directions rather than standing still like in a freeze frame and it's virtually impossible for a human being to accurately judge if someone is offside or not with the naked eye.

But it's so so easy for managers, pundits and fans to say he should have got it right and to call him crap. So they do.

I'm sure they all reckon nuclear physics is easy as well. Well, it's easy to say it's easy anyway.

Sorry but they know from instinct what way the defenders going, they know from instinct what way the forwards going and he's got an unobstructed view of when the balls played and where it's going. Mistakes happen but when it's clear in front of him he should be getting that right.

Like I said I'd be very annoyed to see that given against us and very relieved to see us get it. It's poor officiating, it's not an easy job they've got but it's an important one and something they should get right in those circumstances.

To paraphrase Jamie Redknapp :" Yeah i know it's a very diffucult decision, the defender is going one way and the attacker the other and it's very hard to judge that. But the linesman should get that right anyway so it was a terrible decision". He's literally an idiot.

Obviously Sherwood moaned about it as well but pretty much all managers do. God knows why though, why it's so diffcult to realise its virtually an impossible decision to make for a linesman so there is a 50/50 chance of getting it right. And the fact it's their job doesn't change how pretty much impossible it is to make an accurate decision in that circumstance.

let me shock you here mate.

i disregard anything that comes out of jamie redknapp's mouth. i watch foreign streams because the punditry by british former players is utterly abysmal. i'd rather watch 20 mins of adverts on fox or something - they're all so utterly terrible. i hate everything about all this multi-camera and freeze frame lark. i'd be ripping my hair out if i was a linesman. some moron who probably failed his GCSE's and hasn't done a stint of linesman work in his life is sitting there pausing a screen and saying "yeah look, his right leg is offside ... no idea how he's got that one wrong"

Quite surprised at how shockingly average City actually are.

i'm not aguero and silva are utterly fantastic. yaya toure was, but this season he's been injured a lot and not 100% when he's not. apart from that, there's nothing genuine class. just a load of players like dzeko and nasri who look brilliant when they play well, but look appalling in the 4/5 games that they don't play well. given the money they've spent last couple of years under pellegrini, their squad should not be that bad,

... i keep forgetting bony is there.

If you have the technology, use it. I don't understand the resistance. That replay decision could be made within seconds.

exactly. there's so much money in football and the authorities seem to fine players for everything under the sun, instead of banning them. i reckon they could employ high tech technology that creates invisible lines of the offside line and sends a buzzer to a referees watch everytime a striker strays offside.

but again...

They've taken 15 points out of a possible 48 at home and have the worst record in the league. Granted Burnley also have the worst away record but Burnley will be down by then. It won't be as easy as you think.
Maybe but they'll attack us like wasps next week and unless we're up for it I think they have the balls to win

They played well in parts today and gave City a game. However there is nothing quite like conceding in the last minute after clawing back a 2 goal deficit. The goal they conceded at the end today will have them tossing and turning for the next week. Its put them on their knee's that goal.

Don't forget that they will have one eye on that cup final and a one off game to collect a pot and a medal after a terrible season. Anyone who says they won't and you take each game as it comes... Yeah bollox !

You're spot on.

Like i said, it's pretty much impossible to accurately judge if someone is offside or not in cases like this.

But it's incredibly easy to say "oh he should have got it right". As i'm sure some idiot like Alan Shearer or Danny Murphy will tonight.

Half the time they actually say how difficult it is but still say they should get it right regardless. It's stupid but typical of people in football.

It's like going to Stephen Hawking, asking him what 1647843834983456 X 23641641 / 43567198288 +1 is , giving him less than a second to answer and calling him crap when he doesn't know it. Then saying he should have got it right.

Ant not allowing him to use the calculator by his side that would have given the correct answer.

don't think sheerwood will let it have a negative effect on them tbh. his words sound quite positive. he'll say something along the lines of "we weren't expecting anything from it, so don't be dissapointed" when they drop points in the ones they targeted as 3 points - that's where the worry and negativity will be.
