You surely dont want VAR doing every offside call? It only gets involved if a goal is scored atm.

It should be challenge based. That way it makes it part of managing the game for teams. Right now it's very random at best and at worst something more sinister with when they do and don't use it.

I mean in general not just for offside.

Offsides will be fully automatic in a couple of years time, The semi auto stuff in the champions league and the upcoming World Cup is much better than what the prem is using now anyway.

The only reason it took ages yesterday was they had to determine if it was handball or a deliberate play at the ball from the sporting player.

The actual onside/offside bit takes 20 seconds.

Unfortunately it means a return to the no buffer zone but it is meant to be factual and in time I think we will come to accept it like we do goal line tech.
