We've seen it go higher wage spend leading to success. City, Chelsea, PSG all started with the spending.

And we're not spending CL money. There are 6 teams that no doubt have higher wages. So that's CL money, the top four of those. We fall short.
That’s a fair point, however those clubs just happened to win the football owner lottery and so spending on transfers and wages wasn’t restricted for them (in the case of the first two, FFP was still a long way away when they came into their filthy lucre). Both Chelsea and City needed a couple of goes to get their recruitment right before realising actual success.

I believe the initial conversation was about Everton’s spend vs Liverpool’s. One was unsustainable and haphazard, the other has been largely sustainable and in line with success they’ve had, rather than taking a punt on potentially succeeding further.

If Liverpool lose the title today that could be really positive. Because It would mean Gerrard should put his best team out for the Burnley game rather than saving them to try to beat City in order to help Liverpool.
But that would help us and he doesn't like us does he.

My point wasn't that we're doing well it's that if our goal is to actually compete at that level we are going to have to figure out a way to spend like that or we're going to have to find a way to put together as talented a team for less.

Neither is likely but it is why I bang on about trying to buy young as young players cost less and really good ones usually get overlooked. You aren't finding many 26 year olds who are elite players, who aren't at CL clubs already and who will fit inside the confines of what we pay.
