Absolute nonsense. Success on the pitch = more income = higher wage spend = better players, and repeat (if you get it right). We’ve chucked CL money at Championship players and wonder why we’re in the financial mire.

They’ve spent more wisely than us by every conceivable metric.

We've seen it go higher wage spend leading to success. City, Chelsea, PSG all started with the spending.

And we're not spending CL money. There are 6 teams that no doubt have higher wages. So that's CL money, the top four of those. We fall short.

That's what matters in terms of the financial sustainability of the club, but for winning trophies the correlation is with the total wage bill.

I imagine our wage bill is way higher than many who have won trophies since we last did.

The teams that are consistently challenging for trophies spend higher wages, yes, but - again - they can do that because the income associated with that relative level of success allows it.

If you’re spending big on wages and being crap on the pitch consistently, it’s an irresponsible waste of money and shouldn’t be justified by pointing out that far, far more successful teams are spending more
