They had to remove their core tenants of their demands section since they got called out for it (ie abolish the police, abolish capitalism, abolish the nuclear family etc etc).

No offence, but if you can't be bothered to google the organisation you're taking about, why are you taking about them?

Confusingly, the political party Black Lives Matter isn't actually associated with Black Lives Matter.

I can't phrase that any other way unfortunately!

Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, Inc. is a global organization

BLM is not "an organization", monolithic and singular. It is a lot of groups.

I understand it that he referred to him as "that black guy" in Romanian, and so using 'negru' was understood as 'negro' by the Istanbul guys who then assumed he meant it offensively and with all of the negative and racist connotations and undertones that calling somebody a 'negro' in this day and age has with it, hence the reaction.

There are lots of problems when, I'm assuming, none of the Istanbul players speak Romanian and the fourth official wasn't speaking TO the coach in question, rather telling the referee who he was referring to.

I don't think it's as easy as saying "I wouldn't mind somebody calling me that white guy", because clearly white people generally weren't kept as slaves for years and aren't, still, treated differently in society for their skin colour.

I can definitely see both sides of the argument here. In any case I don't think the official should be telling the referee "it's that black fella there", which it seems is what he said, but I also don't think it was meant in an offensive way at all.

Thats my take on it... but surely if the bloke apologises for any offence caused they should just move on.

Thats my issue with it all - its like a misunderstanding these days can cost you everything which shouldnt be the case.

Blokes reportedly apologised so if there wasnt any malice intended just move on and be grown ups about it - all this "get him sacked" "send him death threats" from idiots online and even on the video one of the players (Ba?) Saying they wont resume play until he's ejected from the officiating - the worlds becoming like something out of a Nazi Germany novel God help if someone gets offended by a stupid yet innocent misunderstanding your life / career may be over because of it - thats not a progressive world ffs.

Absolutely.

The main point is the word they heard especially in a heated situation like that was.

If you heard someone say "negro" or "Negrito" over here, it raises eyebrows (see Cavani's Instagram post). You hear it in a heated exchange, things will go off.

Then it takes a long time to settle and see what was actually meant and happened. But at the moment it get tarred with a brush of racism already.

You just flat out didn’t read the post there did you.
I didn't want to be rude and say that if you don't know what you're clapping for, then you're honestly pretty ignorant. Clapping for something means you support it, whether you realise what you're clapping for or not. Join the back of the crowd thinking its a street performance and start clapping, and it turns out just to be a fight in the street, its your fault for not knowing what you're showing your support for.

I mean... I've just literally linked the Black Lives Matter website that calls itself an organisation.

They can all call themselves the People's Front of Judea or the Judean People's Front, they're all ultimately and practically the same thing.

Let's just be thankful it wasn't a Liverpool game because the man, his dog, family and circle of friends would probably be dead already.

BLM as an ideology and social movement is a good cause.

BLM riots not so much.

I remember the fella who said that he believed in what BLM we're fighting for and racism has no place in society etc. He then went on to say that he didn't agree with the pulling down off statues and the graffiti though, he was then labelled a racist because he didn't agree with the pulling down of statues.

Kneel for BLM is the line
Some people will kneel for black lives matter but not necessarily BLM

Clap for the NHS is the line
Some people will clap for the frontline workers not necessarily the NHS itself.

Without knowing the people in question you’re just assuming you know what their actions are supporting.

Until we know all the details we can only speculate but whatever has been said has been deemed racist and has stopped a game. Footage came out online instantaneously and the players still didn’t return so we can surmise they still thought it was racist.

Understandable. But theres going to be a debate about it either way which leads into wider debates about language that we're already discussing.

Yeh it’s a fine line to walk with things like that. I just think it should be obvious by now that BLM is a movement for racial equality and you can support said movement (as we all should) without having to support BLM as an org and the things they do.

Remove the logo and stop saying BLM and I'll get onboard. Until then, if they say they support it, I believe them.

Then don't use BLM, say racial equality. Don't make it easy to oppose.
