Until they stop explicitly saying that it is in support of BLM, I will assume that it's in support of BLM. At the heart of the organisation (again, this is explicitly stated) is the overthrow of western society.

I suspect players taking the knee are doing it in their heads to support racial equality around the world. Not to support BLM as an org.

Thats fine, they may believe that. But until they stop wearing armbands with BLM, having BLM on the advertising boards, having BLM on the top left of the screen, having screen transitions say BLM, have commentators say "they're taking the knee for BLM", then I will continue to believe the players, and continue to see that its in support of BLM.

The question in your story should more be does your mixed race friend mind being described solely as “my mixed race friend” to your mum.

I put earlier that...there's a difference between offended and racist. Finding it offensive to be described by ethnicity rather than a name for example, perfectly fine to be. Feeling said person describing you is doing it in a demeaning manor is where it becomes a different matter.

By the sounds of things tonight...it's the arle Suarez/Spanish/South American use of the word black that's kicked it off. Which is always troubling.

Not everyone likes the NHS, everyone was clapping for the NHS earlier in the year, lots might be clapping to support frontline workers but not the NHS itself.

Same thing here.

I understand it that he referred to him as "that black guy" in Romanian, and so using 'negru' was understood as 'negro' by the Istanbul guys who then assumed he meant it offensively and with all of the negative and racist connotations and undertones that calling somebody a 'negro' in this day and age has with it, hence the reaction.

There are lots of problems when, I'm assuming, none of the Istanbul players speak Romanian and the fourth official wasn't speaking TO the coach in question, rather telling the referee who he was referring to.

I don't think it's as easy as saying "I wouldn't mind somebody calling me that white guy", because clearly white people generally weren't kept as slaves for years and aren't, still, treated differently in society for their skin colour.

I can definitely see both sides of the argument here.

In any case I don't think the official should be telling the referee "it's that black fella there", which it seems is what he said, but I also don't think it was meant in an offensive way at all.

well

i) its not an organization
ii) its not about to be a political party
iii) it doesn't have a manifesto
iv) taking the knee isn't explicitly in support of them

you can add their aim "is the overthrow of western society" as well whilst you are at it
BLM is an organisation, I don't understand how that's even debatable. What a ridiculous thing to say haha. They have filed to be a political party and are currently in the process of doing so, do your research. Manifesto, read their site. They say that it's in support of them, so I choose to take them at their word and believe them.

Until we know all the details we can only speculate but whatever has been said has been deemed racist and has stopped a game. Footage came out online instantaneously and the players still didn’t return so we can surmise they still thought it was racist.

Clapping for the NHS is supporting the NHS. I think that's within the definition of the statement; "clapping for the NHS".

Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, Inc. is a global organization

They had to remove their core tenants of their demands section since they got called out for it (ie abolish the police, abolish capitalism, abolish the nuclear family etc etc).

No offence, but if you can't be bothered to google the organisation you're taking about, why are you taking about them?
