Tim Howard

Remember when Baines scored that belter of a free kick at St James' a few seasons back and everyone was laughing at bitter big nose Thomson because he was suggesting the keeper should have done better?

It was one of those goals that you just have to sit back and say 'yeah, fair play'. Nobody was saving that.

Not sure where Howard should have been for that shot but feel the evidence is mounting up that he is either not focusing, not in position or reacting too late on a consistent basis.
Don't like to nit pick after result like yesterday or single a player out all the time, but Howard is not there to pick off comfortable saves. Our keeper should be winning us games. I still feel like Tim will cost us points and momentum regularly this season but spurs is only one in last few seasons i can immediately think of where he gained us a point.
how many of the long range shots we have conceded have viciously swerved and found the top corner within a foot of the post?
Would like to know what percentage of thirty yard shots most teams concede just because they are on target. Feels like we let a massive percentage in.
How many times in a game does Howard collect in a crowded box? Again feels way below average but only guessing.
We were so on top yesterday when that one flew in and everything could have changed. And it's my gut feeling that a decent prem keeper would have saved it more often than not.

Your clearly not aware of the goal keeping basic of not keeping the ball out of the goal by being in the wrong position, let's be honest this isn't the first time it's happened.

So come on explain in a bit more in depth detail where you would advise a premiership goalkeeper of 12 years with over 100 caps for his country should be positioned for an unstoppable shot from 30 yards out???

Firstly I disagree with your assertion and hyperbole. I don't think it was an unstoppable shot, he was beaten by power and placement because he made a choice to be further of his line then he should be. He made a risk assessment that he wouldn't be beaten by the power of the shot based on the angle, the pay of, by simple physics in being closer to the ball gives less time to react and compansate, than if in fact he was closer to the goal. Additionaly he increases the testing of his positioning skills by the fact that he is further way from the objective object he is protecting which is the goal in terms of orientation. He wasn't beaten on angles he was beaten by height and velocity by the decision he made on his positioning.

Arguably with his rep for a gaff you could also argue the player himself was told Howard was a week link and if you get a chance test him - that not far from the reals of possibility in opposition preparation for my money. I don't think that shot is unstoppable.

Tell me how it is unstoppable mate? And how he never had a chance?

Don't think it could be called a shot from distance either, just outside the box maybe 20 yds give or take. Past most keepers before they could move.
