2025/26 Thierno Barry

I've seen enough from his finishes and his general play that he has potential. I know we all want instant impact but some players take time.

The millennial generation of Amazon prime next day delivery versus the Littlewoods catalogue wait 3 weeks, pay in instalments generation.
I get what you're saying, but we also paid a huge chunk of our transfer """warchest""" for him, to wait another few years for him to maybe come good at some point eventually. Not his fault for that, but also no wonder people want more impact from him I'd say.

Yep, 6 PL goals - so far, year 1.

That's a good base IMO at 23. He has headroom to develop.

DCL had an average of 3.84 goals per season while here.

Overall i think we need to create and help our forwards more.

Fair enough, but you've justified that opinion by comparing his move to others travelling the world (they aren't the same) and by also seemingly disapproving that he's a French multi millionaire.

To your last point, it's circumstance dependent, but looking around the league you could make a case that he would be getting equivalent game time at clubs around us in the table: Newcastle, Fulham, Sunderland. Would he be their main striker, probably not, but I don't think he was intended to be ours this year either.
Agreed, very much hypothetical. Look you clearly have faith. I don't. I've seen enough to make my mind up. And not enough to think of changing it. I don't usually castigate players so vehemently but he's got nothing for me.

Id like to see him post summer after a programme of strength work and coaching. Added to his finishing, it could elevate his game.

I think the jump to the PL is huge, especially from Spain and Belgium and he hasn't been given the time to develop on that outside of being thrown into the 1st team.

I also think, regardless of who we have as our starting CF, we should not expect them to be consistently scoring more than 10 goals a year as Moyes does not play a brand of football that enables CFs to have a higher return. Yakubu aside, the high mark for Moyes strikers is about 12.

Igor Thiago went from a farmer's league to Belgium to Brentford, got a meniscus tear, sat out almost a full year and still came in and was stronger. I get what you're going for but we've just recruited poorly here with Barry. Maybe he comes good, sure, but at this point it's an expensive maybe.

As to goals total, he's missed some sitters that if it was DCL or Beto it'd be skirts and KFC aots.

Was pondering the question why he’s getting stick and thought maybe flip the conundrum the other way round and ask what there is to like about him……
Is he a good player - no, not that he’s particularly shown so far.
Does he work hard for the team? - not really, even Beto who isn’t much better, will put in more of shift than him.
Is he humble about the support he got and his performances? - not really, he celebrates his occasional goals like he’s prime Henry and take’s stupid run ups for penalties like Onana.

So for me despite early support he was always on the cusp of ‘getting it’ from the fan base, so to staple a huge target on his back after his il considered posts after Arsenal, he’s opened the door to it.

It’s going to take a significant turn around I form / goal returns to stand a chance of reversing it, and imo that turn around isn’t going to happen.

Does that warrant abuse? Probably not, but in the same way kicking a ball around a field doesn’t warrant being paid more per week than the majority of those watching get paid in a year. Unfortunately it often comes with the territory, unless you are a bit considerate of those fans feelings.
Just ask Maupey.
Crucially though, these things are not the same at all. Being abused is not the same as being overpaid for being a footballer, and him being overpaid doesn't justify him being abused.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

His finishing is the only thing I have been (very mildly) impressed with.

I don't see what else he offers us on the pitch.
