2025/26 Thierno Barry

Personally I don’t think he is good enough or suited to the Premier League. If he was playing in most of the European leagues he would be fine. Having said that I don’t get the amount of abuse he is getting, I think we all know most Premier League footballers can be complete @##£oles at times.

that's akin to saying moise kean or lookman are not footballers even though we didnt give them time

even beto needed a lot of time

and some of u are crying out for delap and parrott to be signed as the solution smh
This revisionism has to end.

That's not what happened with either of them. They got fed up we didn't hand them starts when there were better players in the squad.

Kean stank this place out and then immediately wanted to leave.

Lookman immediately wanted out after one year up here also.

He's poop mate. The whole new country thing only lands for so long. Some people travel the world at 18 so don't gimme a sob story for the multi millionaire from France who played in Belgium, Switzerland and Spain previously. Not good enough, end of.
Some do yes. Not all do. But most who travel to another country travelling don't usually tie their career and reputation on the trip like a footballer does.

If you were, for example, a professional solicitor moving to a new country, you wouldn't be expected to adapt to that system within 6 months.

Dry up. You get my point.

Was pondering the question why he’s getting stick and thought maybe flip the conundrum the other way round and ask what there is to like about him……
Is he a good player - no, not that he’s particularly shown so far.
Does he work hard for the team? - not really, even Beto who isn’t much better, will put in more of shift than him.
Is he humble about the support he got and his performances? - not really, he celebrates his occasional goals like he’s prime Henry and take’s stupid run ups for penalties like Onana.

So for me despite early support he was always on the cusp of ‘getting it’ from the fan base, so to staple a huge target on his back after his il considered posts after Arsenal, he’s opened the door to it.

It’s going to take a significant turn around I form / goal returns to stand a chance of reversing it, and imo that turn around isn’t going to happen.

Does that warrant abuse? Probably not, but in the same way kicking a ball around a field doesn’t warrant being paid more per week than the majority of those watching get paid in a year. Unfortunately it often comes with the territory, unless you are a bit considerate of those fans feelings.
Just ask Maupey.

Guess we will agree to disagree. Bottom linr is he's rubbish. What other team does he start for in the league?
Fair enough, but you've justified that opinion by comparing his move to others travelling the world (they aren't the same) and by also seemingly disapproving that he's a French multi millionaire.

To your last point, it's circumstance dependent, but looking around the league you could make a case that he would be getting equivalent game time at clubs around us in the table: Newcastle, Fulham, Sunderland. Would he be their main striker, probably not, but I don't think he was intended to be ours this year either.

Looking at just goals of strikers in the league and each teams top goalscorer as a striker to see how he compares -

Haaland has 22 for City, Thiago has 19 for Brentford, Pedro has 14 for Chelsea, Welbeck has 12 for Brighton, Gyokores has 11 for Arsenal, Ekitike has 11 for Liverpool, DCL has 10 for Leeds, Watkins has 9 for Villa, Sesko has 9 for United, Jimenez has 9 for Fulham, Kroupi has 9 for Bournemouth, Richarlison has 9 for Tottenham, Mateta has 8 for Palace, Flemming has 8 for Burnley, Woltemade has 7 for Newcastle, Brobbey has 6 for Sunderland, Wilson has 5 for West Ham, Jesus has 3 for Forest, Arokodare has 3 for Wolves.

He's amongst the bottom players in terms of his goals at 6 but the gap to getting into the top 5 isn't that far. Gyokores at the league leaders only has 11 and a fair few of them have been tap-ins. A few of the other players like DCL have penalties to add to their goal tally. Yes, he's been poor at times and should have scored more but I think the game has changed for the most part in terms of having a sole striker that bags a ton for you. Haaland is a bit of an anomaly in that respect. We are seeing far more nowadays that wide forwards and the like get more goals now and the spread between the strikers and widemen is more so.

But we don't get many goals from the rest of our team, so it is absolutely imperative our striker does.

Besides the goals, if he got 10 in his first year that's a decent number, but the rest of his games, and just using our eyes, tells us he is just not it at all.

You can say the same about the wide forwards though, or whoever is playing at CAM if we use one. It's all part of the same problem which is being part of a team and system at the moment which will never get the best attacking output when you have JOB and Mykolenko as your main fullbacks.

Like hand on heart, do you honestly rate him

When you look at the stats of other goalscoring strikers in the Prem versus our two, chances created for them is very different. The service both Barry and Beto get is poor.
