2025/26 Thierno Barry

The Blues are a great away support. They don't kick off for nothing.
We do have great away support but they absolutely do kick off for nothing, don’t be daft. It was a half 5 kick off in London, you’re talking about a load of lads who’ve been on the ale and the beak for about 8 hours and then seen their team concede two last minute goals to lose, they’re not exactly going to be the most rational people in the world. Like I said, I’m not saying that’s what happened but pretending it’s not a possibility is a bit mad.

They don't kick off on their own usually do they.

It’s not particularly uncommon in my experience, and in this example they wouldn’t believe they were kicking off at their own anyway so it wouldn’t matter. Let’s be honest here, some of our fans are complete scumbags who’d batter their own granny for looking at them wrong, just like you get in any other element of society.

I respect your take on it.It just isn't mine.Hope it all comes out in the wash.

You say it isnt radical, then underline why it is.
It's not that the idea of both players up top is not radical it would be interesting combo with Kroupi in behind/just off the shoulder of Tiago, but we are not spending £100m+ on two players yet Zat, we are a bit away from that yet imo.

Sadly I have Calvert-Lewin #2 vibes about young Mr Barry. Whatever the rights, wrongs, and truth of the Ticketgate incident it feels like a watershed* moment in his relationship with the fans. He's got enough doubters and as we've seen with DCL off field activities can really turn some against a player even more.

*I hope the forum pedants are happy.

The focus on Saturday should be Everton beating chelsea not about what kind of reaction from the fans Barry is going to get

It is in the best interests for all parties he is left out of the matchday squad
Yes it is.
Leave Barry out of the squad altogether and get stuck into Chelsea. End of potential issue!!!
In fact tell him he’s played his last game for us and find a new club.

This incident will now be viewed by some as the point of no return where he's turned the fans against him with his own actions.

The truth is that most of the people insisting that it's unforgivable and that there's no coming back from this had already decided that they weren't having him a month or 2 into the season and have been complaining since.

My opinion is that if the exact same thing had happened with Ndiaye in place of Barry the reaction from fans would be very different. That's not to say there would be no controversy, but people would certainly be more willing to understand.

The impression I get is that some Blues are buzzing this has happened to Barry as they feel it vindicates their opinion of him. The idea that he will never be accepted by fans will be a self fulfilling prophecy, same as it was with DCL.

Went to Euro 2004 in Portugal (having been to the final in Rotterdam 4 years earlier just cos I wanted to go to the stadium where we won the CWC). Got tickets through the ballot for 2 quarters which meant if England got through, I'd see them. Lose. On Pens. And see Rooney's last kick as a Blue.... More of that later GOT chums....

Anyway we got there a few days early, to see if we could pick up any tickets for Group games. Stopped on the street, a bloke told us to meet him the next day, in a car park. He had 2 tickets, €150 each. Thought it sounded a bit dodge, but went with my mate, and we got there and there was just him, and 2 of us. Expecting him to lead us round a corner into 12 of his mates, he led us round the corner to produce - 2 x VIP tickets. Face value €100 each. This was when the ticket buyers name was on the tickets. It was Ricardo Pereira - the Portugal 'keeper. He'd basically given them to his mates to sell, to earn a bit of cash.

We sat in a boss spec, right on the halfway line - surrounded by a who's who from European football (most of whom I didn't recognise and had to have pointed out to me). David Platt was a couple of seats down from us. Great game. Czech Republic beat Germany 2-1 to put them out at the Group Stage.

Happy with that. Few days later of course, we were right up on the back row as Ricardo Pereira took off his gloves to save Darius Vassell's penalty bare handed, before scoring the winning pen himself.

We did have the last laugh though.... All the bar owners in Lisbon were in tears. Cos England were going home, dashing their early retirement dreams.
Brilliant 😄👍
