Most "imperial" Christian movements have had this dogmatic refusal to acknowledge really simple teaching, right from the beginning and through the Crusades (especially the ones against heretics), the conquest of the new world, slavery, the scramble for Africa and social measures dealing with the poor here, anti-civil rights and now the prosperity gospel and these clowns.

Its much more obvious now though, of course, given that nearly everyone can read.

I kinda have that weird feeling of wanting the country to fail miserably quickly so we can get rid of the mess and start again.
The only time I wanted Everton to lose was to get Rafael out of the club. It's not dissimilar. (perhaps a bit more on the line :) )
Is this how 80% of republicans feel when they vote against their self interests?
 
Just to play a slightly optimistic devil’s advocate…for as embarrassing as yesterday was, it’s days like that that are going to remind swing voters why they ran these MAGA loons out of office four years ago. Or motivate people who sat at home to not do so next time. For those that aren’t super engaged, it may be easy enough to forget some of the lowlights and just listen to all the stuff he was promising at his rallies. Especially if you’re feeling the financial pinch from inflation, and can’t really be bothered to educate yourself as to why.

Yesterday, with him back at that podium, was like a terrible flashback to his utter abdication of leadership during COVID, which is what cost him the 2020 election. He’s completely incapable of leadership, and can’t do anything but push hoaxes and point fingers. A lot easier to remember his incompetence when he’s actively president-ing, and not just Truthing stream of conscious nonsense from the 16th fairway or a toilet at Mar a Lago.

With the policies they’re pursuing, there’s going to be A LOT more days like yesterday, or worse. If we can make it to next fall without SCOTUS granting him the powers of a full-blown dictator, I’ve got some hope that they’ll get wiped out in the midterms. Historically, they’re always tough for even the best administrations, and this is not the best administration. It won’t take much to lose their majorities in Congress.
