Controversial opinion: the people voting for Trump aren't doing it because they are stupid. Of course, plenty are. But they are voting for Trump mainly because they are nasty, bitter types consumed by their own prejudices, resentments, ignorance, and entitlements. Let's not give these people an out due to low IQ. They are simply...bad-minded and, in many cases, deeply malevolent people, some of whom are now walking dangers to humanity.
Yep

It’s reason to feel depressed for sure

It’s one thing to vote in a charlatan , that can be fixed

What Cant be fixed is what is peoples nature, which if they were on the fence has been nurtured

This election proved that even if trump goes away in 2028, those people won’t. It’s a cancer eating at our society that has matstesized beyond repair

You make a mistake in thinking they care one iota whether poor kids eat in the first place. My state is in the process of trying to push through voucher system so well to do parents can take their child’s portion of public school funding and put it towards private school so they won’t even have to interact with these untouchable poors.
We have a bingo

Its actually hard to make jokes about this stuff. The sheer outrageousness of it is so powerful on its own. They almost transcend any jokes made. They stand on thier own.

I feel these lefty comdians slash political commentators were funnier way back in the day when they had to pick the bones out of things and point out something that wouldn't be so obvious.

Reminds me of South Park creates not wanting Trump to be president as he is very hard to parody.

Can’t make his voter’s lives better, but at least he can make someone else’s worse. I’m sure these morons won’t be applauding so loudly when they’re sat in traffic thanks to thousands of additional cars on the road because of stupid stuff like this.

Someone needs to tell him this EO applies to him as well and he can no longer “work” from the golf course seven days a week.
White House's website asserts that only 6% of federal employees work in person - actual number is 55-60% - but we can't let facts get in the way of a good conspiracy....

The high streets and pubs are in a long decline regardless. I read an article a while back, arguing that we need to rethink how town centre space is used. The high streets weren’t always there but people seem to think they need preserved at all costs,

Most high streets are grim. Businesses rise and fall depending on the trends of the time. Can’t justify propping them up by forcing people to spend their money there.

There's a stark contrast pre and post COVID especially in hospitality. Footfall has dropped while rates have gone up. The demand compared to price rises is massively skewed. Pubs are closing rapidly...1 every day. 400 closed last year. 1400 restaurants closed. Highest it's ever been. Week days are a dead zone while weekends don't make it up.

The higher the demand, the shift in prices eventually happens. Demand isn't there and won't be as there's a generational shift. 18 years olds won't apply for jobs unless it has home working. They also don't go out often enough.

Businesses are leaving the high street not going to them. Only things that are left are coffee shops on short term low rentals and wetherspoons. There's no incentive for people at home to go to them...unless they're already there.

That's unfortunate - but ordinary workers should not be forced to subsidise the existence of what are free-market operations. As these entrepreneur types like to tell labour: "adapt or die".

You're not subsidising, you're adding to economic growth. The government has to stimulate the growth in any sector. If that means moving people back to city centres, it's a start. Next is to subsidise rents for independent owners. Etc etc.

Right wing media has effectively created an alternate reality where 40% of the populace believe Democratic policies are satanic

That’s tough to combat
There’s a programme on BBC 1 wales tonight, a year long investigation into far right extremism and the spread of misinformation and lies in the public domain they cause. Not sure if it’s on in England.

I would say that’s more a symptom of big out of town supermarkets, retail parks and changes in shopping habits. Town councils have long been guilty of short term thinking.

There is little desire for many organisations to return to full office working and any attempt to do so sees talent go elsewhere. From management downwards.

There has been swift changes in working practices and consumer behaviours and organisations need to cater to this rather than try to reverse it.

I try to work from home 1 day a week… admittedly it’s much cushier but I do manage to get so much more done without constant interruptions from others.

They could have run Jesus Christ himself, but Americans would say he was feeding too many people with too few fish and held his mother's infidelity to Joseph against him. Soft on crime, was Jesus. Always gave people a second chance.
Ok but its still no reason to run such terrible opposition. Nobody can convince me that Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris where the best that the Democrats and the US could offer. I get that its ultra difficult to change the mindset of a people bent on self-sabotage but that's no reason to feed into it and not even try.

As I said in my other post, it's striking the balance that is generally government led first. The main idea of people going back to the office initially was to stimulate the market which it needed.

We're not talking about a normal, rational electorate. We are talking about right-wing, entitled headbangers with a penchant for racism and fascism. It doesn't matter who you run, these people will always choose the lowest common denominator - the person who gives their bigotry voice. No Democrat could rival Trump for that.

That said, Biden should have been a transitional president whose main role was to get a successor identified and up to speed within a year of getting into the White House. But ego took over - and complacency - and perhaps also a little naivety. Touchingly, Democrats seemed to think their institutions and rule of law were up to the task of bringing Trump to justice.
