You're not subsidising, you're adding to economic growth. The government has to stimulate the growth in any sector. If that means moving people back to city centres, it's a start. Next is to subsidise rents for independent owners. Etc etc.
Sorry, but my job is not to ensure I get to a certain location to keep Wetherspoons in business. If I can do my job at home, I will. And I do.

If you want to move people back into city centres, reduce rent. I'll work from home, thanks. Because I can. And any business owner that forces me back will lose me - and the best talent. Because the best talent has choice.

Adapt or die. The government also has to protect the environment. If people working from home means less cars on the road, excellent.

Ok but its still no reason to run such terrible opposition. Nobody can convince me that Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris where the best that the Democrats and the US could offer. I get that its ultra difficult to change the mindset of a people bent on self-sabotage but that's no reason to feed into it and not even try.
Imo it’s not about the candidate. The way to win people over is to actually have something to offer them. As sad as it is Trump is offering them a scapegoat and that’s enough. The Democrats have the ability to offer a different, more constructive alternative but they decide time and again not to.

The Luigi murder was the most agreement I’ve seen on something in a decade. Opinions on the method varied, and of course right wing media pushed people in the direction they had to push them, but in the moment everyone I talked to was in agreement health insurance sucks and those companies are scum.

This is ultimately why I’m so cynical. The Democrats have places to turn. They also have to turn away from all the money flowing into their pockets to do it. I doubt they ever will.

There’s a programme on BBC 1 wales tonight, a year long investigation into far right extremism and the spread of misinformation and lies in the public domain they cause. Not sure if it’s on in England.
It’s available on iPlayer, watched it an hour or so ago. Some truly disgusting people exposed. In a normal world they would be screwed but they will probably find a base through social media and get to hang out with the usual suspects in that world.

Which goes back to what I said about choice and flexibility within needs. You as an individual have reasons not to. That's not the case for everyone. It's also not how the economy in certain sectors work as it needs people and works better with people together.

Hospitality can't "adapt" if there's low demand but higher rates. It's a sector that needs help that hasn't got it. You can't sell flats or houses if the price is too high and not enough buyers to afford it for example. That sector got help with plenty of schemes.

So if a government forces businesses to get people back in the office...it should be for a economic push rather than lining pockets (as the original post was about)

They know. They can't admit it to themselves. Complete cowards and scum.
its fascinating.

Except that one guy from broklyn... but if he was able to be honest and free thinking in that moment. How is it he has taking all the Trump BS up to that point.

I feel every bit of information he ever got is through a biased source. And that's the first time he seen something based on its own context with just a question of what does he think of that.

We're not talking about a normal, rational electorate. We are talking about right-wing, entitled headbangers with a penchant for racism and fascism. It doesn't matter who you run, these people will always choose the lowest common denominator - the person who gives their bigotry voice. No Democrat could rival Trump for that.

That said, Biden should have been a transitional president whose main role was to get a successor identified and up to speed within a year of getting into the White House. But ego took over - and complacency - and perhaps also a little naivety. Touchingly, Democrats seemed to think their institutions and rule of law were up to the task of bringing Trump to justice.
So, the solution to dealing with a wacko electorate is to use the worst, most uninspiring candidates imaginable? I'm sorry, but even with a ferociously right-wing electorate, there's still no justification to chose Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris. There's no reason to make an already uphill battle even harder.
