Totaly deverstated with this news. It's just one thing after another with the boy. So much knee surgery at such a young age does'nt bode well for the boy at all.

TBH this could be make or break for the lad, He may never play at the highest level due to injurys. He a great talent aswell, thought this was going to be his season.

The lad hutton at spurs had the same sort of injurys at rangers an they thought he would never really play more that 2 games back to back. An look he's proved every one wrong an is now a top player. Hope James go's the same way.

Goog luck mate all us blues have our fingers crossed for you. Speedy recovery an good health in the future.....:(:(:(:(:(

Its more than that, hes missed so many years of crucial development and chances to become our number 1 striker. He is so good, this is horrible news for someone who has bags of potential.

Gutted for the lad...... just hope he recovers to become the goodison idol he has shown the potential to become :(

i am the same age as this lad. i had a knee problem last year, it turned out both cartilage and ligaments needed trimming and tidying up, and i was back playing a fortnight after my operation and that was with the NHS...stuff colorado go to fazakerley lol

If its just a scoping he needs, its prob only 6-8 weeks before he's training again. Microfracture surgery is a different thing. Its a surgery that basketball players get alot. It takes 9-18 months to recover and up to 2 years to get fully up to speed. Often players (though its worked well with young players) are never the same too.

Terrible news for the boy! We are all thinking of you James.

This lad will triumph he has the strength of charicter, and class to be a special player in the future!

I for one will have a big smile on my face when i see him win something with the club, because with him as the future we will!

Best of luck lad!

Ah [Poor language removed]. I've followed sport in Colorado long enough to know that multiple visits to Dr Steadman (Vaughan's third?) mean a story that rarely has a happy ending.

If he's previously had or is having microfracture surgery, there is some information about that (and this doctor) here:
Wikipedia - Microfracture Surgery

All the best, James, and keep patient.

Edit: I see elsewhere that DM says that he is just "having cartilage trimmed" so hopefully it is not as bad as it might be.

Actually, Steadman has saved several players careers.

Del Piero comes to mind and I believe he did some work on Shearer too but I'm not positive on that one.

He's the best out there so if anyone can get Vaughan back up and running, this guy can.

(Just looked at his Wikipedia entry and it lists both. Also lists one JOLEON LESCOTT....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Steadman)

Yeah, I live in Colorado and have had a few knee surgeries at the Steadman clinic, including microfracture and cartilage trimming and it actually made my knees worse. Obviously, I'm not a world-class athlete like Vaughn, but anytime you see "cartilage", "surgery" and "knee" in the same sentence it's not a good sign for a prolonged career. I think the poor [Poor language removed] is probably done for.

Oh, I appreciate that he has done wonders with knee rehabilitation. It's just that more than one visit to his clinic - or for any microfracture treatment elsewhere - has tended to be bad news in the past. Rook saw it with the NBA and I've seen it with NFL linemen and receivers.

But I really hope a) that Vaughan isn't having micro-fracture and it is just the "cartilage tidying up" that the club says (but then the players' agents and the NFL teams always said that as well), and b ) that he can come back once again as good as we know he can be.

Iv Just got a horrible feeling that this is it for the lad. To many op's for the young boy. Im gutted for him an everton as i thought he had a bright future with us.Hope he still has.

Just think theirs a big chance we wont see him in the royal blue again!!

he is still young, he is still growing, medical science has never been better and more thorough.

that he is a multi million pound asset means he will get the best treatment possible, and be looked after and cared for properly.

it aint over till the fat bloke sings.
