This is heartbraking, it really is. I mean, every Blue knows the potential Vaughany possesses, so to see him struck down by injury is just horrible. I wondered why he hadn't played.

I seem to recall when he got that last bad injury that Big Vic came out and said he considered ending his career - I just hope that James realises that, as hard as it may be, he can come back, stronger and better than before.

It's not over till the fat lady sings.

how bout showing some respect for someone who has the potential to be a goodison legend.

apart from his potential contributions to the blues, its devastating to see someone with that much ability be denied the chance to develop because of injuries, but hopefully this is the last of it for him and he'll be fit from here on out (fingers crossed for sure!)

on that wikipedia list, seeing names like larsson keane and ronaldo give me hope, seeing names like Michael Owen don't

He'll be back but he has to remain in a positive frame of mind during his rehabilitation, don't want the kid slipping into depression.

1st i dont agree he does have that potential.

2nd, he could be pele for all the use it is with him sitting on the treatment table more than being on the pitch

Oh, I appreciate that he has done wonders with knee rehabilitation. It's just that more than one visit to his clinic - or for any microfracture treatment elsewhere - has tended to be bad news in the past. Rook saw it with the NBA and I've seen it with NFL linemen and receivers.

But I really hope a) that Vaughan isn't having micro-fracture and it is just the "cartilage tidying up" that the club says (but then the players' agents and the NFL teams always said that as well), and b ) that he can come back once again as good as we know he can be.

I think he'll be able to come back. But it's certainly going to take some time.

The first round pick in the NBA Draft last year, Portland's Greg Oden, had to have microfracture surgery and has had to sit out the entire year.

I'll be interested to see how it works out for him when/if he finally starts playing at the pro level.

Mate you must be watching games on a drunk TV set, how can anyone think that James Vaghan is anything then a top class prem striker, i find it hard to find a flaw in his game bar lack of experience!

Honest question mate, do you think we would have qualified for the Uefa Cup without him last season?

So then by that extension, I'm guessing if Moyes were to sell him, you wouldn't expect anything more than say...2M?

I think Vaughan is a valuable part of the team. I agree that I don't think he's warranted a starting spot based on the form of Yak, AJ, and Anichebe but it's nice to have someone of his caliber on the sidelines in case a long term injury occurs to one of those three.

Vaughan has a lot of the intangibles and some of the abilities that you can't teach but he's far from the finished product. I don't think he's overrated but I also think that he can get better from here.

Obviously, a lot of that would depend on how much first team football we could get for him and that isn't much right now. I've always thought it might be wise to loan him out but our recent squad numbers in terms of the ANC and injuries has kept that from happening.

The way he is at the moment tx, we would be lucky to get 2m for him with his injury record.
I dont see him ever being a 1st choice striker, more of a tim cahill/teddy sheringham forward for me

It cant be answered Yes or No. He played a part, a small part. Whether that was enough to say he got us into europe is impossible to answer
