The UK in the EU

That's not how it works! All of their income is subject to taxation, and the products they make and the industries they support mean massive amounts to our economy.

They also have to eat whilst they're here, use our financial services etc. so they help local economies where they exist. It's called tertiary effect.

Nonsense, pure nonsense, based on nothing.

I've worked in the sector - English people have no inclination to work. If they left, the English people would stay on lower-end benefits comfy on Housing Benefit/CTC/JSA/ESA.

1 English to every 9 Foreign applicants, easiest job in the world to get. Says it all.

If we decided to stop every low-skilled EU national coming here now, businesses and industries would leave in droves.

How would farms leave in droves, how would the food processed from our farms leave in droves. All that has happened is that lower wage jobs have been forced even lower....... It's a con

They benefit the economy by taking jobs that wouldn't be filled, thus paying tax and allowing industries to sell products made in the UK for export and domestic consumption.

But how can you say those jobs wouldn't be filled when so many people struggle just to get work?

Oh my...

So EU workers don't get taxed and don't eat, drink & pay rent then???

Prejudice blinds people to the obvious. You're either wilfully disregarding the obvious or fundamentally naive on the subject.

I am not naive. Taxation does not keep the economy moving as it only accounts for a small % of our turnover. Shops are not kept open by taxation and cars and luxury goods are not sold if everyone spends their money outside of the country......

Oh my...

So EU migrants don't use schools, healthcare, housing or the benefits system???

You've repeatedly pointed out why we shouldn't have so many migrants tbh. Having a £20 billion benefits bill paying people to stay at home is economic madness, force them to work or lose their dole, end of.

They don't spend all their money - they eat, drink, use pubs, betting offices, cash cheques, use financial institutions, buy clothes, pay rent, use public transport etc. etc. etc.

They pay tax on the full wage too. What you're saying is ludicrous - you're making out like they come here, take money out without the inconvenience of having to live here, and send every single penny they get back home.

Said this a few times lad.

The English wouldn't fill those jobs whilst the benefit system remains as it is. And I'm not an evil Tory saying that - I'm a Labour man through and through, but after working in the sector I can't ignore the obvious.

Think about it - free rent via Housing Benefit, council tax is paid for and a living allowance, or for a pittance extra you work 40 hours a week.

No wonder so many UK Nationals choose benefits instead of low-paid jobs!

I know. I said this earlier too...

Bruce is right - the welfare system at the lowest levels for lazy people (not the genuine cases) is at fault, not migration.

It's a shame because genuine people need that support but unfortunately a lot of people take the p*ss with it.

The DWP do to an extent and it's improved in recent years, but it's still far too easy to sit off on JSA. Unfortunately, cracking down on JSA has led to an increase in fraudulent sickness benefit claims as it's easier to just sit off on ESA with an appointment every 3-6 months instead of the fortnightly JSA routine.

Having open boarders is extremely good for an economy, people come here and take jobs that others find undesirable, this increases the amount of money circulating within our economy. The alternative is those jobs are sent overseas, which means that our economy wouldn't see as much of a benefit.

The problem we have is our welfare state is too accessible to those who don't need it so you get people coming from poor EU countries with relatively poorer welfare states to the UK where they know that the government will provide them with a better standard of living. And do you know who funds it? You (providing you pay income tax).

You said they send money home. I said that is not good for our economy. Which bit did you not understand....

How does having people come into the UK to do jobs that could be done by our own people increase the money in the economy, is this the economics of Gordon Brown you quote.......

The part where they don't send ALL of it home, and their full income is taxed, and they spend money living in the UK which benefits our economy, as well as the products and services they create also adding to our economy.

What part of that do YOU not understand???
