The UK in the EU

If people have a job to come to and can support themselves then I couldn't care less where they come from. Talent is what matters, not what nationality it says on someones passport.

I'm not in favour of the workshy, regardless of which country they're from. But the smart and the industrious are always welcome imo.

That type of person should be let into the country without free movement though. Just saying "everyone can come in" isn't a good recipe. Just my opinion anyway.

Yeah, your not racist Nik, honest. ;)

The financial benefits of free movement to the UK is wide ranging and well-documented. All we need is the freedom to generally restrict free movement when it becomes too much of a burden rather than an asset to our economy.

But naturally you're going to pigeonhole them all as drug-pushing gangster terrorists directly from the movie Taken. ^^

Last time I checked lithuanians were white caucasian.

The word you're looking for is xenophobic but whatevs.

I don't like dodgy romanian pikeys running around mugging old ladies thank you very much. We have enough tits in england to be dealing with than also putting up with the dreggs of society from elsewhere. Tar lar.

Take away the cushtie welfare and you'd soon stop people coming to sponge. We shouldn't shut our doors to anyone with skills and a good work ethic.

I wish mate. I really do. But Niks other point about them coming here and working and then the money all gets sent back to their home nation does occur, and while I'm no financial expert and am not claiming to be sure on this, surely that's not good for our economy if the moneys being taken out of the country?

Let's be honest, letting eastern europe have free reign causes a lot more problems than say somewhere like france.

I'm not advocating a free reign. The same rules should apply to all. Support yourself then all is cool. No one should expect a free ride from Britain. The very principle of charity is that it should be freely given.

When you start to try and manage population movement it becomes absurd. Why should an engineer from one country be refused but one from another be accepted if both have jobs agreed? How on earth can one person/a group of people decide what skills the country needs and devise quotas accordingly? It's absurd.

The problem is the welfare system, not immigration.

Why should they not send money home? If you earn an honest wage you can do whatever you like with it as far as I'm concerned. It's your money and the sooner we get away from this thinking that says we have a right to dictate what other people do with their own money the better.

That's the thing though Bruce. We need people with specialist skills. Not people that come here with no job to go to, but end up getting a job at sainsburys or whetever to support themselves and their families back home. There are plenty of people in england who can do those jobs. If there was someone from somewhere in eastern europe who was for example, a doctor, then absolutely let them in to work/ study or whatever.

But we let so many for no reason whatsoever and they are allowed to because of free movement. We have **** loads of problems with eastern european gangs running around taking the piss out of us.

If that was a criteria then a tiny percentage of people would ever be allowed to vote.

yeah i know , just being silly really..your point about welfare is valid though, but we DO have different rules for foreign nationals and benefits they can receive, if they are allowed to come here why do they not have the same entitlement as a british person who may also have never worked in their life?

I'm no expert like I said but I'm under the impression that taking the money out of the country would harm our economy here. Which a bad thing.

They benefit the economy by taking jobs that wouldn't be filled, thus paying tax and allowing industries to sell products made in the UK for export and domestic consumption.

Some do. Lots don't.

No, lots do. They have to pass a Habitual Residency Test to claim benefits and settle without a job, and hardly any of them can pass it without gainful employment.

An EU migrant can only come here and make money via crime or via having a job - and 99.9% of them do the latter, regardless of your stereotyping.

As far as I'm concerned we have enough unemployment as it is (yes I no dey took r jubz lololololol) but its true. We need to stop offering cheap labour to eastern euopeans and start employing our own, although I know from a business point of view it doesn't make sense. Solution: stop free movement. Force companies to take on british citizens in the lower paid jobs. Have a criteria for skilled jobs needed from other countries. Only let those people in.

Australia is doing just grand. We are not.
