The rest of the season

Put like that it makes sense but I’d only put LB CB CF plus Lookman / Henry into the first 11 to start
We have no indication either Lookman or Henry are good enough for the starting 11.

We don't even have an indication yet they are good enough for the bench although this may be clearer after Lookman's loan.

Would agree. We don’t need sweeping changes. Would expect maybe 4 in and around 6 out. If we did get europa then this may change. Ultimately it depends who is in charge of the team and recruiting.

Well heres the players that IMO should not be retained at the end of the season :

SnideRAT, hes done here.
Williams, not great on the main, possibly currently better than Keane, but I think Keane will come good when he gets his head right.
Jags, not bad at all, but will be 36 when next season starts.
Yala, looks utterly goosed, could MAYBE look better with games, but im doubtful.
Martina, meh.
Niasse, utterly comical.
Stek, injured constantly atm.
Mori, plop.
Robles out of contract.
Garbutt, nobody wants to play him.
Sandro, doesnt sound like he wants to come back, not that I blame him.
Besic, posted without comment.
Galloway, struggling big time on 2 loans now sadly.
Browning, not sure how hes been doing, so this may be harsh.
Pennington, see above.
Mirallas, get shut.

I havent put Klaassen on this list, cos I honestly still have some faith, but its unlikely hes still with us next season.

Squad:
Gana
McCarthy

Rooney
Davies
New Player
New player

Sigurdsson
Dowell
Walcott
Vlasic
Lookman
Henry fella

Tosun
DCL
New player

There's no way that attack is good enough. We need a minimum of 2 players who are good enough to start.

That's assuming Tosun is good of course.

I wouldn't be in favour of wholesale changes to the squad, other than in trimming it down further and making room for younger players.

We had a scattergun approach last summer which failed abjectly. Three new signings, four at most, in critical areas, that are as properly thought out as possible in every sense will have far more of a positive impact.

I don't think we have the finances for much more in any case and we won't generate huge incomings with sales either.

Next season can really only be one of stabilisation again and ridding the club of players who have nothing more to contribute here. The best case scenario can only be seventh with a bigger points haul and progress in the cups. I think last summer people within inside and outside the club felt we might even push for a top four place.

Particularly if there is a new manager we need to get back to basics and try to develop the squad organically for the medium to long term. There is no quick fix at Everton, and realistically no fix at all that doesn't take another three to five years. That should form a key starting point in hiring a new manager too. I would be very sceptical indeed of anything resembling a return to the three-year project malarkey and would be immediately suspicious of any manager that spun that again. Once bitten and all.

I disagree, but yes it depends on many factors, is Tosun the required level? Can Henry/Dowell make the step up? Can Lookman/Vlasic turn potential into product.

Iceland is really going from strength to strength, Walcott looks a real player, so if any of the above can make an impact we are Gucci.

After 27 games last season we had 44 points
Arsenal after 27 games this season have 45
As you said they were ripe to be picked off
I said at the start of the season that Arsenal and Spurs would struggle ( Arsenal because of lack of signings and Spurs because of Wembley )
I’ve been proved right about Arsenal and Spurs have only hit form recently.
If we had if filled the gaps that Koeman identified another 14/16 points would have been possible and we would have overtaken Arsenal and be on Spurs tails.
Money badly spent by Koeman /Walsh

The money was badly spent but I think it's a manipulated way of looking at it by saying if we had done this, if we had done that, because it's a biased way of presenting a new situation in our favour. Your hypothetical way of looking at it assumes we would improve but Arsenal wouldn't.

I know what you are saying in a way, as we definitely have messed this season up but surely Arsenal fans could say the same about their own situation?

Do you want to see us relegated.

I know we will probably finish 7th but Williams, Baines, Rooney and Jags will both be a year older and if we took Rooney's goals out of the team we would be in the mix for relegation.

The premiership below the top 6 is all roughly very similar. Any club below them that has a bad season could be relegated.

We need a minimum of 3 starters. 3 players who will all cost 30m or more. Even that won't be enough to challenge the top 6 but it should get us back to the point where we were able to give them a game like we did under Martinez. Then maybe the following year we could try and close the gap further. Even with that kind of gradual improvement we would still be 5 years away from challenging the teams in the top 6 they are that far ahead of us.

Although I do agree with you. I also doubt the finances are there. Now we don't have player sales to rely on Moshiri will be finally exposed without argument as another Kenwright just not as good.

5th highest spending team in Europe, NET and Gross, but keep saying Moshiris a fraud.

By your own estimation we have two players we can rely on who are the necessary standard.

All the rest are a hope and a prayer and I can't help but think if Dowell, Lookman and Vlasic were of the necessary standard they would have broken through this year instead of being loaned out.

It's not like we are Arsenal or Chelsea etc and don't have positions for them if they are good enough. We are stronger further back and even Davies who is OK but not exactly the next Rooney can break through and play a large amount of games.

Plus I would move Sigurdsson back anyway. He's far better as a CM because he just doesn't have the pace to play that far forward.

Well if im totally honest we have probably 5 players that im happy with Pickford, Walcott, Coleman, Iceland, Gana, the rest I would probably replace in an ideal FM world.

A mixture of yoots, possibles and players well past their primes the rest.

I never said he was a fraud plus I don't think Kenwright is a fraud.

I just don't think "the project" is anything more than keeping us in the top half while he tries to build a stadium which is exactly what Kenwright has been doing for the past 20 years.

If he has more ambition than that and I hope he does we will see it this summer. If Fat Sam is still here then I think we know the answer.

There's nothing biased or manipulated about that though?

The hypothetical in the situation is an improved Everton. Whether Arsenal could have spent better can be debated by Arsenal fans on an Arsenal board, we're here to talk about Everton, and whether we're happy with our current situation. Most of us aren't, and are pointing out where we think we went wrong and how this could have cost us. It's a fairly straightforward concept really.

The recruitment needs to be more specific and targeted than before.

We desperately need new signings to be able to come in and make an impact without undue delay for next season. I don't buy into foreign players needing a full year to adapt as a given.

It might also make sense to utilise the loan market again for 1-2 players if required and to make the budget stretch.

The solutions are there, the club need to get people who are creative and flexible enough to find and implement them.

We could potentially still finish seventh in a car-crash season so any sort of reasonable improvement next year at all should be eminently possible based on such a low base.
