…..there’s a story in our family that when I was 3 (1959) I painted the coal white in our back yard coal bunker.
I was spoiled, got an eiderdown in the late sixties

I was just a kid - only found out the seriousness of it all off my parents when I got home ....
That reminds me of the joke about the priest coming around for a visit and while mother was waiting the kids were screaming from upstairs that one was hogging the coats on the bed. Mum goes upstairs to quieten them down and tells them that the priest is on his way so they should use the word coat, and should, instead say eiderdown.
The priest duly arrives, there is a commotion from upstairs and one shouts down 'Mum, Johnny's pulled the arms off the eiderdown'.
