They used to drop the coal straight into our back yard. I can still hear the sound of the shovel we used to bring it in & Chuck on the fire.
Mum on freezing cold mornings lighting the fire with a newspaper covering the front.

….got a letter inviting me to apply for my State Pension in September, I’ve been retired for over 7 years.
So fortunate to have been one of the last qualifying for a ‘final salary scheme’ private pension and heafty lump sum at 60. Feel sorry for those currently finding their way through life, the thought of having to work until you are 70 is becoming a possibility.

My son Paul was born on this day 37 years ago.
By way of celebration, here is Paul Wilkinson scoring the winner v Liverpool on that day.
(the wife had already chosen the name Paul, but I still tell him he was named after Wilkinson lol )

….1941, young girl at an emergency feeding centre at the Pier Head eating sandwiches made with imported American hard cheese.
Fast forward 80 years and we have food banks.
