It was similar for me but not as high flying as you.
I opened a business 30 years ago which was turning over a million a year at its peak and in May I walked away with nothing when my wife got ill.
I told the lads that I was only at the other end of the phone if there were any problems , the phone never rang once.
It just shows you arnt as indespensable as you may think.
As someone very wise once said to me. ‘The cemetery is full of indispensable people’.

The Indispensable Man

(by Saxon White Kessinger)

Sometime when you're feeling important;
Sometime when your ego 's in bloom;
Sometime when you take it for granted,
You're the best qualified man in the room:

Sometime when you feel that your going,
Would leave an unfillable hole,
Just follow these simple instructions,
And see how they humble your soul.

Take a bucket and fill it with water,
Put your hand in it up to the wrist,
Pull it out and the hole that's remaining,
Is a measure of how much you'll be missed.

You can splash all you wish when you enter,
You may stir up the water galore,
But stop, and you'll find that in no time,
It looks quite the same as before.

The moral of this quaint example,
Is to do just the best that you can,
Be proud of yourself but remember,
There's no indispensable man

Just watched the first 10 minutes at Marine without my glasses on, I can see the other goal now but not what I’m typing
When I had my cataracts done, both eyes, the surgeon asked me if I wanted short sight lens or long sight lens. I said long sight. I use glasses for close stuff but most of the time I seem to be doing long sight stuff so wearing glasses is a minor problem. My long sight is brilliant, not bad for 84.

I’m 60, got my first glasses 10 years ago but I’m short sighted in one eye and long sighted in the other. I’m hopeless reading without them , it’s more of an inconvenience at the match, cinema etc. for now

Anyone else fed up of fireworks? It seems that they are used for any and every celebration now. There was a time they would only be seen on November 5th.
Midnight New Years Eve used to be greeted by a cacophony of factory horns and colliery sirens. (Even the horns of the ships on the Mersey could be clearly heard here in Sintellins)
Most of the factories and all of the pits are long gone. Maybe the ships still sound on the Mersey? I wouldn't know because of the bloody fireworks :rant:
