The Oldies Thread

A charming young nurse (possibly Polish) fell right into my trap today.

(She) ' Have you given blood recently sir?'

(Me) 'Given no, spilt yes, are you familiar with the Ardennes young lady?'

She had no idea what I was going on about!

My old man used to quote “the blood donor“ without fail (or success)

"It was either that or join the Young Conservatives”

"I don't mind giving a reasonable amount, but a pint! That's very nearly an armful!"

Nobody ever knew what he was on about but it always made him chuckle to himself.

They had gone by the time I started going to games in the mid sixties but my cousins old Football annuals had pictures of the likes of Ted Ditchburn and George Swindin wearing them. Probably only when the pitches were hard and bare?
Once sat on the tram in the seat behind George Swindin. (Footballers didn't have cars in those days!) Me and my brother started talking about how great Everton were and how crap Liverpool were but he didn't react.

He never played for Liverpool. Am I missing something? Might you have meant Elisha Scott?

Yes you are right. I blame my memory! I was thinking of Cyril Sidlow.
Regarding Elisha Scott. There is a story, I'm sure not true, that Dixie Dean was walking through Liverpool City centre when he passed Elisha Scott walking the other way. Dixie nodded and Elisha dived.
