Perfectly valid point of view you have there, mate. I see it like this : when you're coming to the end of a dual carriageway with a 60 mph limit, there's often a stepped speed restriction down to 40, and then 30 mph. This is so that people doing 65 aren't suddenly faced by stationary traffic at lights, and either shoot up their back end, or have to jam on, potentially causing a collision. If I'm there at a quiet time, in excellent driving conditions, and can clearly see there's no stationary traffic, then I'm happy to break the rules and do 55 till I brake at the lights, if I can't see any risk. I appreciate that it's technically a rule breach, and would accept the penalty if the Police did me for it, but I still wouldn't believe I was 'wrong', or irresponsible. Ditto for technically being too close and in too large numbers during the restrictions. If I believed, hand on heart, that people would act sensibly, and I didn't consider there to be a material risk, then I'd have broken the rules in a measured way, and not felt at all guilty.
