I don’t think you do, and I don’t think ‘black’ before ’vandal’ as you are desperately trying to get into the conversation. Racism is not just about ‘black’ and ‘white’ and if that is what you think then perhaps it is you that requires further understanding of racism.

Have a look at this and give me your views....

I’m not directing it at you Pete. I’m not sure I have?

I find it weird that people are more upset with vandalism than racism. And I think the idea of people becoming more racist or racist when they otherwise wouldn’t have been because of vandalism is evidence that there are inherent biases on account of race. Which is a form of racism.

Leaving aside the vandalism as a form of protest debate (as I’ve not made up my mind on it yet), I hate violence and distraction.

Destruction for the sake of destruction is offensive to me. I’m sure there were a minority of people who attended the protests recently that were there just for the sake of destruction. And those people are d**kheads. I can appreciate vandalism as a genuine form of protest (particularly when other forms of peaceful protest have not worked. Same with looting. I can understand the rationale (whether I agree with it or not). But destruction for the sake of it and not to make a point is abhorrent.

That being said, the fact that a vandal may be a person of colour would not make me think it badly of a race. It’s not a reflection of every person of colour. It wouldn’t make me more inclined to be racist. I would just think what a d**khead.

I can accept why people would hate vandals more because of it. I’m not accepting it as an excuse to be racist. Because it’s not.

thank you for the link. I’ve been reading a lot about it recently and I think it’s important for people to understand these things and educate themselves.

I'm double checking Bessie Braddock's history now, I tell ya that statue on Lime Street station is coming down.

She was a mainstream social democrat ( neo-fascist Blairite) and she has no place in modern Britain.

Protesters pulled down the Forward statue that normally stands outside the State Capitol and left it lying in the middle of the road. Demonstrators had been marching around downtown Madison, frustrated after the arrest of a protester earlier in the day. The same group also tore down the Col. Hans Christian Heg statue a short time later. The group then went on to throw the statue into Lake Monona. Heg fought for the Union during the Civil War and was a stark opponent of slavery during that time.

Here's the arrest:

Here's why they arrested:

He wasn't armed. He had a megaphone and a baseball bat. No gun, there.
They're going to run out of statues before long. What's next?
My guess is buildings or people. I hope it's buildings with no people inside at the time. You see, there's some history at Madison.

The Sterling Hall bombing that occurred on the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus on August 24, 1970, was committed by four men as a protest against the university's research connections with the U.S. military during the Vietnam War. It resulted in the death of a university physics researcher and injuries to three others.

A megaphone and a baseball bat. What an absolute arsehole of a man. He was intimidating ordinary folk trying to enjoy the sunshine. It was bad enough when he did it outside, but to walk inside and put the megaphone directly in front of the face of one guy is disgraceful. Being black and calling people racists is not some form of get out of jail free card.....

This is very problematic, mate. Just saying this probably makes you a racist. You can't just walk around calling Black people arseholes.

They probably all had it coming to them. Too rich, too white, too unconcerned.

Coopers was simply demanding that they shed their cynicism.
Demanding that they put down their divisions.
Demanding that they come out of their isolation, that they move out of their comfort zones.
Demanding that they push themselves to be better.
Demanding that they engage.

And for this, the racist state unleashed its storm troopers upon him. No justice, no peace.

It’s a tough life....

Just reading about Heg and his anti slavery work prior to his military service. I’m sure the protesters will have a valid reason for doing it... Norwegian or something....
