Are they meant to be going after every statue? I don't think that is their sole purpose.
So why pick one?

Pulling it down the way it happened was done to make a statement, so why that one?

Why not someone who literally did start the slave trade and personally sail there to round up the slaves?

Given why coulston can't have a statue anymore, why can Francis Drake? Why don't blm care enough to go after someone who started the slave trade rather than someone who was part of it for only a few years in comparison?

Using your own logic, BLM has only been going a couple of months so what is your beef?

Go back over the last few pages fella and find the post where I have actually attacked BLM.

I'll wait.

Not talked about BLM personally at any point, just questioned their motives in relation to landmarks of slavery, the title of this thread.

I have attacked millennials sure, but not all millennials are in BLM

It doesn’t, you said couple of months.

You obviously then did a bit of research, found out it was 7 years and tried to justify your lack of knowledge by stating it needs to be longer than 8 years (what a strange number of years to go with btw).

So you have no point
The number of years is because that's how long Kenshin said Colston worked as a slave trader and as it was only 8 years (it was actually more like 28) out of his 71 alive he shouldn't get such a hard time.

Admittedly I did not know the history of BLM. But you obviously did not do any research, as you clearly did not understand the context of my post which you jumped in on, otherwise you would have known it was @Kenshin who made the arbitrary eight year rule. So the point does still stand.

You know what is really bad about this? The part that people aren't saying but it shows you how pathetic this really is?

Edward coulston joined the slave trade for 8 years of his 75 year life. He started as a trader of other products before investing in what everyone else was investing in at the time. 8 years. Consider the last 8 years of your life compared to every other one so far .

I have quite enjoyed following this thread today, and amazed at the knowledge folk have of Edward Colston. (Not Coulston ffs).

Some perspective from a resident of Bristol ish, for nearly 50 years.

I have seen dozens of bands at the Colston Hall.
I have driven along Colston Avenue hundreds of times.
I have had clients in Colston Tower.
I have drunk beer in the Colston Arms.
And I have knocked about with a girl from Colston Girls School.

The difference I have to most on here is simple. I/we know about his past and role in the slave trade. Indeed, Bristols role in the slave trade. Because I/we were told about it in school, more than once. It was way before a national curriculum, so looking back, I assume it was the local education body that tried their best to meet that association, head on.

To this day, the slave trade is explained via exhibitions in our museums. Like most west coast cities, Bristol was a trading city, and their profits are seen to this day. In fact, there is a very high chance that the BBC programmes Blue Planet, etc etc, were put together in a building funded indirectly from the slave trade. So lob David Attenborough on the hit list.

I am not that arsed the statue was taken down, mainly cos you barely noticed it, and much prefer the new one put up last night. But the point is, if folk are taught their local history properly, there is no need for shame. And it gives you the confidence that if folk in a different age are offended by it, you can explain it, and shrug if some bronze goes in the docks.

The city have already said that the statue will be in a local museum soon, including the damage, to continue the story about slavery, and how this city has at times, been shaped by it.
