When he does stand down, it's really important that they don't rush into an immediate leadership election as that is what has gotten them into this mess in the first place.
I am not sure how likely that is - the PLP have had nearly two years now to identify, examine and understand the reasons why they lost the 2015 election, the subsequent leadership election (and even the referendum), and make the necessary changes. They have made no changes in that time; indeed they seem to have come to the conclusion that "their" party was stolen from them and that any measures can be justified as long as they target those who "stole" it, even openly co-operating with the Tories (and in one case probably being bought off by them) and utterly ignoring the referendum result.
The likely outcome is of course a party which ends up getting the kicking that other soft-left groups have gotten - like the PS in France (6.36% of the vote despite being the party of Government), or Labour in Holland (5.7%, down from 24.8% at the previous election). Delaying that outcome just so that they can fight each other - as Eagle and Smith did so hilariously - will just make things worse, if that's possible - they are no more likely to get a unifying leader to emerge, and Watson's power will continue to increase.

where did you have the misfortune?
