Yes, if he loses, I don't think he's got a choice but to stand down. I just fear that any loss (however significant) will delay the progressive movement in the UK/labour party.

Who would you all like to see as the next leader if Corbyn stands down?

When he does stand down, it's really important that they don't rush into an immediate leadership election as that is what has gotten them into this mess in the first place.

I've been called a Blairite, and a Trotskyist over the past 3 weeks - so I guess I'm somewhere in the middle.

One of the saddening things on both 'wings' is a complete lack of imagination.

There's no silver bullet to this problem.

I don't think its helped that the establishment MSM has done essentially nothing but attack Corbyn and co, and keep the focus on their faults, rather than their aims or agenda.. as well all know, media consciously and subconsciously affects our perception..

I'd consider myself a progressive, and if there's one thing I wished Corbyn had tried to emmulate was the excitement Bernie Sanders created in his primary in the US

Would think it is more a case of who will run rather than who we would want.

A leadership challenge will be needed to oust him so I presume that will have to be one person and I would think that Yvette Cooper will stand and probably get the support of the MP's who dislike Corbyn. Would she win, probably not given the support Corbyn has with the members.

That still doesn't mean you can't have an opinion on who you'd like to see as leader. After all, it was a grassroots movement that capitulated Corbyn to his current position x 2

I don't buy this excuse, to be honest. Even by grandfather banged on about the MSM's bias against the Labour Party - we've won elections regardless.

So you're telling me that the billionaire owners of MSM do not have an agenda against the democratic socialist running to upset the status quo?

I don't think anybody doubts that individual publications would rather have the Tories in power, but that has been the same way since the turn of the last century. They were biased against Labour in 1945, 1950, 1964, 1966 and 1974. It didn't stop them winning then.

Historically, Labour win elections by appealing to the wider electorate, not just those on the left. They aren't doing that currently, which goes some way to explaining why they're on course to lose badly.

It's not even about that, it's about packaging policy into something so that people can understand it in seconds.

I disagree that it's not even about that, it's important, because there's not enough centre-left/left-wing voters to get a majority, however, you are right about packaging policies correctly.

Wouldn't a prolonged period without a leader cause its own problems too?

I seem to recall Dan Jarvis and Chuka Umunna being touted as possible candidates in the recent past. What's the general member attitude towards these two?

Yeah I've seen Chuka touted before.. but he withdrew last time stating he wasn't a fan of the scrutiny that came with it. A comment like that could easily come back to haunt him if he decides to run again..

Umunna would be destroyed overnight if he tried to seriously stand for the leadership, masses of skeletons in the closet as outlined in this thread already. He's definitely sharp, talented, and will be a kingmaker in the party his entire career.

Nope - typically, for 6 months after an election nobody pays attention to the opposition anyway, so it won't hurt them if they sit it out and get their **** together.

ooh didnt know this, what are they?

Labour have to win back the working class, hence Dan 'in the army' Jarvis for me

Like what?

I can't remember what they were now, some links to dodgy things. It's why he pulled out of the race last time. Actually seem to remember it was something to do with a members only club for the rich and dodgy stuff happening there? But I could be wrong.
