Debt has increased.
Deficit has not.
They are two different things.

Please don't let what has been a very good discussion descend into name-calling mate.
Swerve it wannabe mod.

@roydo ill leave it mate, in fact if you want, ban me from this forum full of [Poor language removed] tories, it makes me feel sick that these people associate themselves with this great club, a club that prides itself on its Everton in the community arm, when they support cuts to the disabled, the elderly and the vulnerable.

They support a party that is systematically dismantling this great city yet choose to associate themselves with OUR football club, a club for scousers, a club for social democrats, a club that cares about those less fortunate, for whatever reason.

Still, they think they support our great club whilst putting their 'x' in the box next to the name of a rotten [Poor language removed] who is furthering themselves, who supports the bullying and degrading of the working class, who supports managed decline, who supports racism, who supports victims of rape being permanently identified by their tax code, who supports cuts to welfare for the most vulnerable people in our society. IM ALRIGHT JACK

And I tell you something else, if you Tory [Poor language removed] think you've got a claim to MY club and MY great city, you can [Poor language removed] off.

You are not welcome here (in L4, it seems you are welcome on this forum), and if this is my last post on GOT I've had a nice time but you horrible, Tory [Poor language removed] can all [Poor language removed] off, and I hope you reap what you sow, and after they have destroyed my community, and my people, they come after you, and I hope you suffer in the way we have.

[Poor language removed] off.

We won't make interest from cash that has been spent pal.

The sale of gold at that low price had a knock-on effect on consumer confidence, lender confidence, the stock market and the currency market. It was a very bad move, and the money raised was used to fund unsustainable spending, leading to a large deficit which in turn contributed towards national debt.

"The country has no reason to hold gold". Even if that was true (it's not), selling it of on the cheap is still a stupid move.

The proceeds were reinvested, it was an attempt to diversify the countries assets into something which pays dividends rather than holding an asset with a volatile price.

Was it bad timing? Yes.

Have the Warren Buffets and the best, most successful investors in the world made mistakes in volatile investments? Of course.

I thought we were discussing the difference between deficit and debt? If you think you can tell me which football team I can support, I'm afraid you're mistaken son. In addition, it's not exactly relevant is it?

When you've calmed down I'll be happy to continue what has been, until now, a civil conversation with you.

Of course, you can back this up. :coffee:

Yes but what do you think of the CFP?

Why are you artificially limiting the scope of the question?

I'm not. I said that holding significant gold reserves is riskier and has fewer advantages than a more diverse portfolio which can attract interest.

You said it isn't, so I'm asking you to back that assertion up.

I think it's important to understand that people feel emotional about the issues facing the country at the moment, but please can everyone ensure that we can remain friends after robust debate please?

Maybe we can all agree on something?

  1. It feels good when someone licks our private parts.
  2. Liverpool FC are crap.

Actually, I said that selling off gold reserves at a record low price in order to generate cash to spend was a bad idea. I didn't say anything about a diversified portfolio - you mentioned that in reply. The reason I didn't mention it is because I don't believe that the money generated from the ill-advised sale of gold was used to diversify any investments - I believe it was used to finance state spending. Which is what I said in the first place. And it's why I asked you if you could back up your claim that said diversification was funded by the sale of the gold.

Objectively, your statement: " holding significant gold reserves is riskier and has fewer advantages than a more divserified portfolio which can attract interest " is quite true. I have no disagreement with it. Subjectively (i.e. in the context of this conversation) I'm saying that this is not what was done with the money raised by the sale of the gold.

There's a lot of this about, particularly on social media. It's aggressive and off-putting.
Why don't you vote Labour? Do you hate women?
Why don't you vote Labour? Are you Islamophobic?
Why don't you vote Labour? Are you in favour of Israel's illegal occupation of Palestine?
Why don't you vote Labour? Do you like watching people drown in the med?

Really low, amoral politics. Rather than promote any sensible policies, just attack and smear anyone that doesn't meekly go along with the echo-chamber consensus. Interestingly, it tends to be the SJW 25-35 demographic that take this approach - I don't get the same sense of seething, blind hatred from Corbyn.

You're exaggerating somewhat, but there's some truth in the above. In the meantime, while people on internet sites and the media in general are hurling insults at each other, enough "traditional" labour voters will quietly ignore the rabble, and choose to vote for someone else.

I don't know what's going to happen after the general election though, because there's a big gap between the party members who elect the leader, the PLP and the people who normally vote Labour. In some ways, the party is currently in a state similar to what the Tories were in when John Major lost in '97, in that the Tories had Hague, Duncan-Smith and Howard in fairly short succession, all who were pretty much unelectable. Hopefully the Labour party will take a look back at that history and learn from it, but, sadly, I suspect we won't just yet.

I will admit to having to google SJW by the way, and will try and remember to use it at some point !
