Rightly or wrongly, people seem to like that they know what they're getting with him. It's the exact same phenomenon that enabled Trump.

People have been conditioned to accept the abhorrent. With the 'woke' screaming hysterically about each and every little stupid thing, day after day, people have fired back against it with their vote.

The constant moaning caused substantial self-harm to all progressive causes due to a complete inability to cherry pick issues of actual importance and show restraint on others for maximum impact. Instead, it's all white noise now - it's why the Tory sleaze stuff made no impact; nobody gives a toss because you moan about absolutely everything so they've been trained not to listen.
Some take that.
The reason we are in this mess is because of the people who didn’t vote for them, not the ones that did.
‘It’s your own fault for not being a selfish, intolerant d**ckhead and trying to call people that are out on it’.

In what regard

Forgive me if I have made a huge assumption. But that assumption is that you dont like, politically and /or personally, Johnson.

If I am correct, that dislike will colour your opinion of him; whatever he does, you will dislike.

Now there is nothing inherently wrong with that. We all do it, be it a football team, a place, whatever.

But to understand why people like him or warm to him, you have to ask yourself why that is. Ergo, you are looking at it the wrong way around.

Johnson, politically, hasnt surprised me in the least. Starmer, politically, has. I didnt realise he would come across as bad as he has.

It's why nothing sticks to him. Tell people he's a liar, a horrible person etc. etc. and they respond with "yeah we know and don't care."

I haven't seen a single Trump supporter (or Johnson for that matter) admit he is a liar, the idea people say "we know, but we don't care" seems very far from his supporters line of defence. They claim everything he says is gospel and there are worldwide media driven conspiricies against him.

You know, not everyone is a 'selfish, intolerant d**ckhead' if they voted for Johnson, or just don't vote for Corbyn. People have a myriad of reasons why they vote the way they do. It's the same as "Brexit voters are racists" - yes, all racists voted for Brexit, but not every person who voted for Brexit is a racist. They aren't a homogenous mass of people.

That's exactly the problem - there's no distinction, no grey areas, just war, constant ideological war, outrage about everything, all the time.

Yes, it is your own fault - you have acted as enablers. You've pushed people into corners when they weren't necessarily in those corners to begin with. The fact you can't see it is extremely indicative of the actual problem.

Yeah I get that regards Starmer, though I do have some sympathy in the climate of a pandemic it is a delicate time to go all attack dog even against the wave of corruption poring out of the Tory party, he seems to be in complete limbo politically.

As to why people warm to Johnson, all questions that need to be asked by far better and far more interested minds than mine to prevent the wave of right wing populism damaging lives and society, but I don't see how you marry the theory of brits inherently having the ability to call out and rid themselves of phoneys with the election and continuing popularity of a lying, corrupt self serving pile of cookie dough

That's the extremes. The vocal minority.

Most Trump/Johnson voters are regular people who don't go to rallies in MAGA hats or mouth off on social media. They know what they are, but they also know what the alternative is, and they make a call based on their own judgement.

Yeah, pandemic has not been Starmers greatest ally.

But your second paragraph proves what I said; Johnson isnt a phoney. Like Corbyn wasnt a phoney.

Yeah I was thinking that as I wrote the reply to be honest, especially in the case of Trump where his supporters at the rallies make for good TV. But even in the bubble of GOT do we see Johnson supporters admitting his lies and carrying on regardless because they can't watch katie hopkins on this morning or buy a mr potatoe head toy? Or do we see them willing to believe even his most obsurd truth twisting? You might be right, but I'd be interested to know where that opinion comes from, just general experience or is that what the data suggests?

Interesting the the Trump and Johnson supporters are the vocal minorities on the extremes who can be dismissed but apparently on the left they're pushing people into corners and are the problem because they can't see this.

It's so ridiculous to suggest everything is outrage all the time and constant ideological war with no grey areas. Just because people don't think the centre is correct doesn't mean they don't see grey areas or nuance.

Why have you brought Corbyn into it?

blaming the people who didn’t vote for Johnson on him getting in is a ridiculous logic.

You’re saying those that did vote for him only did so to spite those that didn’t. And that they have no real autonomy or accountability for it.

Basically we are a Tory nation for a myriad of reasons but the ultimate, underlying one is that people only really care about themselves. That’s what it comes down to. The haves don’t want to lose it and the have nots think they can get it one day.
