It was a huge issue under Corbyn.

Burnham wasn't the issue though. You said the left of Labour were scared of electing someone like Burnham. I just don't think that is true.

Opposition is a tough gig and Long Corbyn is a debilitating illness - evidence continues to emerge that it can harm the patient long after the initial infection period.

I can't say Starmer's looking great right now but most don't in opposition - it's mainly about not making a show of yourself when things are against you, but then being able to capitalise when events shift in your favour. There aren't many Barack Obama's out there - people who look that good in opposition that they can just defy events and set the narrative their way regardless.

Thanks mate, can't like the post for some reason!

I mentioned last night I think Clive Lewis would be good. Left wing, seems media savvy, ex-forces so harder for him to be painted as unpatriotic by the flag-shaggers.

Whether large parts of this country would accept a black leader is a depressing concern.

So much of it boils down to the leader. Being able to sell your politics with a vision and inspire people is just as important as what your politics actually are.

Corbyn was never a good leader but his policies did cut through and even got the Tories to completely change their approach to austerity. Starmer on the other hand is completely lacking as a leader and there is also a huge, empty void where his ideas should be.

Both Labour and the Conservatives are dead parties that continue to prop each other up by their own Rigor mortis. The ideals of both parties have long been abandoned and they are now ran by chancers who don't have a single strongly held belief or principle that they wouldn't sell out. Both parties represent practically nobody other then themselves and their lobbyists, they're both run by people who hate the electorate and especially their most ardent voters. They resent the fact everyone once in a while they have to go to us "plebs" with a begging bowl. The Tories might be in the acendency now but give it ten years or so and it'll be the other way around and nothing will change when it does.

This nonsense just plays in to the hands of the Tories. Might be some careerists who don't care in the Labour Party but it is very far from the norm and it's just nonsense to try this 'both sides are the same'

Is there anybody in the party currently who you think will be able to offer what Labour need? A charismatic leader who has good ideals, but also knows how to package it?

Genuine question, cause I don't know.

I have no idea, I'm Irish and just Lol at all of your potential leaders. Smh in dismay at the clown you already have too, you can't win

Continue to delude yourself all you want. I'll be delighted when Labour eventually gets elected nationally again and I will continue to vote for them in the hope that it happens. Not because I have any faith in them but because maybe some people will wake up when they do get in and nothing changes for better for the vast majority of the population.

i heard someone on the news earlier saying that Labour have lost the plot so much 'they are now making enemies of the people they were created to fight for'

I disagree. Like the poster above states, left wing policies are popular but we’re socialised boot lickers.
We are in the eleventh year of a right wing Conservative Government and they are making gains on the Labour Party and you think Britain, or rather England, is not a right wing country.
If the Scottish Nationalists get an overall majority and eventually independence it will be because England and Scotland are fundamentally different countries. One is Tory and one is socialist.

The tories hid their extremists by the creation of the UKIP and brexit party.
Im afraid Labour has to do similar to get elected or there will be another SDP for the central left.
The fracture in Labour will happen it’s just a case of where it happens and how many votes fall either side of it.
Which would result in more Tory election wins.

Some of the labour results in the North East are absolutely dire
If you had said about twenty five year ago that's what would happen , and labour would lose scotland and huge chunks of the north they would have thought you had gone crazy.
Last three elections we have gone into elections with leaders who most thought outside of the party were unelectable, and they were right.
The far left have all but killed this party and yet they want more of the same .
Need a complete change of course before it's to late, that's if it isnt already..
