Current Affairs The Labour Party

A lot joined Labour because of the fresh breeze Corbyn brought into politics back in 2015, so they'll easily peel off. But there'll be an exodus once Starmer reveals the watering down of LP policy commitments on the economy and trade union rights etc that'll happen in the new year.

If I was Starmer, I wouldnt do anything.

For one, in the real world, no one would care. Y'know, covid and that.

For two, I reckon the post covid world will be pretty different; I would wait and see what sort of different.

Bur he wont do that.

No offence intended mate but if she would rather another term of Tory austerity cuts over Starmer just because he isn't a swivel eyed socialist then she's a fool considering she works with people likely affected by said Tory cuts.

For what its worth the more folk Starmer rids of in the party who put ideology before results the better - its why we've fallen away the past decade.

Never had it better than under New Labour but the fantasists in the party would rather cry and strop until Corbyn gets back as Labour Leader.
lol Its not about socialism. It’s about maintaining left wing values. Labour will never be a socialist party FGS lol Tell me what policies Labour wished to implement were socialist?

Im a mild socialist myself however Corbyn and momentum promise a lot of fantasy hard line socialist policies that wont and can't happen.

Values mean nothing if they dont bring results - Roberto Martinez had "values" yet it didn't do us any good languishing in midtable.

Labour and the working class need results and thats what Starmer will bring as did New Labour.

Well there's a division within the Socialist Campaign Group of MPs (34 of them) over whether Corbyn should apologise over his EHRC response. She's one of those 34 and that's where you should locate Whittome's CLP stance within, not necessarily between her siding with the LP leadership...a body she's fallen foul over over a matter of principle already (Starmer's insistence of abstention on the spy cops issue / rapists charter).
Yes I know she was sacked as PPS to Ashworth, which makes her stance at her local CLP all the more interesting as she has today been praised by Angela Rayner while being lambasted by some on the left. It certainly won't do her any harm with the leadership.

It just looks to me like she's being consistent - which is more than I can say for Rayner. I doubt very much she's on the turn toward Starmer and his neo-liberal faction.

You might be right but she's the only one (so far) of the 34 to poke her head above the parapet while others have been sticking to the'freedom of speech' and 'stalinist' line I've seen mentioned on here. Quite brave for a junior member of the group. Agree with you about Rayner!

What do you mean 'never had it better than under New Labour'? And why do you think, if that is the case, that we shouldn't strive to be better than that?

Name me a better period of standard of living in the UK for the plebs & working class?

We had it good back then but the fantasists are never happy and want more more more and now we've had two decades of Tory rule and austerity cuts.

I've not said we didn't. I'm just asking what you mean by 'never had it better' - the families of working class people sent off to die in Iraq may disagree with you. The housing problems that increased under Blair haven't done that much for working class people either.

And what do you mean 'we had it good'? You think that working class people shouldn't strive for a more equal and just society that benefits everyone? Should just go 'well, this bit did alright for some so let's stop'?

I grew up in poverty so I know more than most about how crap some families have it - but that doesn't mean I turn my nose up at realistic policies to help as many as possible because a group like momentum promise the world with no realistic way of delivering it.

Corbyn bouncing around Westminster like he's Che Guevara may convince some middle class students that he has all the answers but he's proven to be a busted flush when it truly counted.

And now we have a credible candidate in Starmer who has a good chance to rid us of Tory Rule you have Momentum and their ideological stooges trying to sabotage from within showing no respect towards Sir Keir's 10 pledges.

Its scandalous.

I mean, you were 5 I’m guessing when labour were elected?

List some "socialist policies" then that you think are unachievable
All you seem to do is bore on about momentum and the wonderful bliar years.
What the hell is a "mild socialist?"
More like a centre right wishy washy Conservative

Corbyn is a loser mate - he had his chance and blew it he aint no Che Guevara.

Momentum need to stop crying about it and move on. Trying to sabotage the party in some attempt to resurrect the holy spirit of Jeremy isn't doing anyone any good other than the Conservatives.

Get behind Sir Keir and his 10 Pledges and lets get back to the good times.
