You're a smart guy mate but you've been hoodwinked by Momentum and the like to believe anyone in the party who doesn't subscribe to their extreme brand of Socialism/Liberalism is a Red Tory.
As I said New Labour is the best you've ever had yet you actively support Momentum's attempts at thwarting the Parties chances at the next election of returning to those golden days therefore resulting in more Tory rule and austerity cuts.
Its bonkers to me.
There needs to be a balance.
I think Corbyn and Momentum had a lot of good (moral) policies, but the state they've left the Labour party in is dreadful. Whether Starmer's the man to fix it... I don't know. I don't know enough about him to judge, can only see how he fares in the next election (if he makes it that far).
Corbyn's Labour was unelectable. They succeeded in nothing except preaching to the choir, and while I have no doubt at all that Corbyn isn't an antisemite - I think he's a genuinely good bloke even if I don't agree with all of his views - unfortunately he did nothing to stamp out the examples of antisemitism in the party during his leadership.
They went up against the worst Tory governments in decades on two separate occasions, and lost. The second time, they lost by a landslide - and I've voted Labour in every election.
People need to understand that Momentum's message does not chime with the vast majority of your 'typical' Labour voter - it's why so many traditional Labour areas swung to the Tories last year, and I suppose in those areas Brexit will have been a massive issue (again, something Corbyn and the party seemed to contradict each other on at every opportunity).
So there has to be a mix. Most of their policies may well be sound but the way they went about it was (is?) arrogant and self-righteous. The example is just to call voters in those areas I make examples of 'thick', or 'racist'.
What annoys me is if we had even a semblance of a united/strong Labour party over the last 3 years (since the 2017 election), I think we'd be in a much better position now, whether in regards to general political status or dealing with the pandemic.
How specifically have "momentum undermined and unsettled the leadership" Please provide examples instead of vague accusations. Is it the same as the vicious campaign by the right wing of the Labour Party to undermine Corbyn?Agree with all of that mate - we have to be united if we are to win the next election but Momentum continue to try undermine and unsettle the leadership which will inevitably lead to further infighting and thus strengthen the Conservatives.
They moaned when Sir Keir suspended Corbyn but would he have done that had they supported his leadership from the start rather than attempting a coup d'etat in order to put one of their Corbyneque patsies in charge?
I doubt it.
Its bonkers to you because you know absolutely nothing about Labour, socialism or even what I’ve advocated here.
As an example I did vote for Starmer, and for a centrist local candidate to take over from our then MP, but by all means continue to say rubbish like New Labour represented the working class in the North because it’s hilarious to read.
Decision expected on Corbyn's suspension today.
Get the starting gun ready on a civil war IF Starmer does not back down.
Now is the time build momentum. He's back in.
Holster that firearm.
Starmer has backed down. Very wise move. He's back in.
Holster that firearm.
Starmer has backed down. Very wise move.
Now he has to put down the pro-Israeli apartheid state activists in the party and face up to their apologists outside it who will criticise him.
And after that he needs to do his job: attacking 100% the Tories and not turning on socialists in the party. But if he does that again he'll get what he feared: a mass fightback by the membership and the unions. It's his choice. Focus on the Tories and not media lies about the left in the LP or face defeat in his own party and at the polls. This time he made the right decision and backed down. And after that?
This is clearly an act of defying the EHRC recommendations of keeping political interference away from decision making. The Jewish Labour Movement should be suspended. In any case they dont speak for the British Jewish community in the LP, Jewish Voices for Labour do.
Starmer or the NEC need to act.
