Just watched the exchange....one thing which immediately struck me regardless of my opinion on Starmer, was that Bozo, without his ranks of bullies behind him, came across as weak, bumbling, and unable to properly answer the questions put to him...totally exposed for what he is..ok with all his gang behind him but timid and clueless without them

There is definitely a case for keeping PMQ in this “behind closed doors” format.

The questions are properly heard and as you say Mell, without the “ranks of bullies” a’ hootin’ an’ a’ hollerin’ behind him Johnson has no distractions and nowhere to hide.

The man’s total unsuitability for the job is exposed for all to see.

it won’t happen but it accentuated his incompetence

But no one watches PMQs.

I did today, and I agree with your analysis. But on the news clip just now, the brief exchange that was aired made him sound ok.

As Front of House, he is effective; head chef, less so.

I think thats a fair analysis. The man is a highly successful lawyer so is very competent at arranging information. I also agree with your front of house/head chef analogy, but my point would be that the PM role now is increasingly a front of house role. Tony Blair was a front of House and Brown was the chef, and a fantastic chef, but lacked the people skills to be front of house. Theresa May was also a very good sous chef in her role, but couldn't be front of house.

I also agree with you re PMQ's. I said to Pete a while back that Starmer would be a lot better than Johnson at PMQ's put that Johnson wouldn't worry too mcuh for the point you've made (he seemed a bit put out, but this seems a lot more obvious point than saying Starmer won't win them). They have a huge importance placed upon them by political journalists, and highly politicised people who have quite clear party loyalty. I mean I would never vote for the Conservatives, even if Churchill came back and won every PMQ. I understand to some degree they inform the media discussion after, but I think they are greatly overrated.

I remember a tactical discussion re Corbyn and there was a lot put on him winning PMQs or trying to be better at them. My view was he was never going to win them, and actually he should have just binned them off. Had his back bench team do them (who are much better) and host his own PMQ's in different towns across the country. Counterpose the pomp and privilege of Westminster with an opponent who is in touch with the electorate. Yes he'd have been slaughtered by the political establishment, but they were going to do that anyway. If you're going to be anti-establishment, you need to go the whole hog.

As for Starmer, I didn't vote for him, I don't like a lot of what he's doing, but he's probably the leader Labour need currently. He's a competent safe pair of hands. I think the ghost of Blair looms large over Labour. He is the equivalent of what Wayne Rooney is to Everton's young players. Everyone is measured to him, but there aren't many Tony Blairs or Wayne Rooney's growing on trees. Sometimes you have to work with what you have a bit.

I think this crisis could unravel for the government a bit. I don't think they will get away with messing about on Brexit anymore, and any repeat of the No Deal Fiasco bullying will see (I think) the business community and media fall in behind Labour, as they now have a man they can trust (and who is pro EU) at the helm. They probably need the Tories to make some mistakes, but in his own terms Starmer is doing fine.

Hearing your opinion on the Labour leader, is like when a RS tries to talk to me about the Everton starting line up.
He is tho, his like Hugo from the vicar of Dibley.

What a disappointment this is for the labour party, Boris Johnson will destroy him, Corbyn was crazy but held his own in debates with Johnson, this new guy is as quiet as a mouse.

Keir Starmer is infinitely smarter than johnson, that much is very clear but who knows what it will lead to
He is also quieter, and we all know what happens to quieter people.

If Boris Johnson shouts at him he will start crying and curl into a ball. He has no personality and no arrogance, at least Corbyn could hold his own and give some back which is what the public wants to see.

Only a matter of time before some bigger personality's in the labour party start coming after starmer and it wont be too hard to displace him either, he will fold at the first sign of an attack

What an embarrassing contribution this is.

Stick to campaigning to finish the league.
