think there was the hope that social media and newer ways of communicating would have buried the old newspaper influence (relates to what I said above about demographics) but that doesn't appear to have happened. Or at least not in any simple way as social media appears to be a giant cauldron of [Poor language removed] that is manipulated every which way

I see your point there, many things happen where you are pretty sure of something happening, but then a consequence you haven't thought of happens.

anyone else get the weird feeling, that labour v tory is like us going up against RS at Anfield?

Not at all. 5 years is a long time, it was a hard task just managing and implementing Tory manifesto with the shadow of Brexit. The landscape is going to be very different post virus.

Watching Question Time last night, and it's obvious that the line is to just concede as much ground as possible on every single issue that presents itself.

Forensic opposition.

Responsible opposition under Sir Keir. Dont rock the boat, be mindful that a lot of the serfs in the red wall seats respect their incompetent and murderous *betters*, and just try to be marginally more caring than said incompetent and murderous Tories.

What a betrayal of the people on the front line of this fight against the virus and the victims of it.

Take a bow, you utter 'kin cowards.

This is as much as an open goal as Corbyn ever had

Heard that last night.

Couldn't believe it. An absolute sitter.

He doesn't "want to score points" though.

"I'll challenge government on occasions, because the government has welcomed that".

FFS.

I'm fast coming to the conclusion that Blair was more militant than this pillar of the Establishment.

He'll only 'challenge' the government if it's allowed. Coward. At long last we have a Labour leader, who'll stand up (when allowed of course) and kiss the governments backside. No wonder Starmer is the loyal establishment's opposition.

Unless you have a death wish, hes right, you don't pick fights you cant win just for the sake of it.
Edit; ok there might be a few borderline ones, you take a swing at just to see, but not opposition of everything on principle

With potential mass unemployment only weeks away, local councils going bankrupt unable to afford even basic functions and a health and social care sector on its knees, Labour must take on this vicious government now.
If not, the TUC must organise for mass strategic strike action. Labour can either stand with the people or be swept aside.
In the background is the existential threat to humanity of climate change. This is our last chance to get things right. If ever we needed a combative and effective Labour Party, it's now.

He's utterly useless.
