To be totally clear in a very short space of time I hope those responsible for our failings and any dishonesty in our response to this crisis are held to account first in the commons and subsequently by either a higher court or the public .
I agree with you on the idea that Starmer didn’t have much choice. I also believe that folks like Pete are disingenuous when they say they want a strong opposition

mate I’m not a fan like I say . I watched it, I don’t think a opposition leader has a lot of choice at the minute . If you get it wrong you’ll be crucified . Even the snp stepped carefully , nailing the government would be a thing of beauty but I’m not sure that's an option just at the minute . I’m probably wrong but I think it feels like softly softly is the only way to go .
Maybe he's also conscious of how popular Johnson is, especially given all the sympathy towards him after he got "sick", and sees ripping into him as risking a public backlash.

I just think across the board at the minute the opposition , any opposition has little choice but to pick it’s way delicately through the minefield. The time will come when they have to truly step up and they’ll need to abd need to make it count .

Getting teary eyed. What an opposition.

He should be coming out swinging. 'kin bellend.

Then again, many warned he was an Establishment figure and his main priority as DPP was covering the tracks of the police and army to allow them to do what they wanted. Didn't take him long to get down to covering up for the crimes of the British Government over this catastrophe.

"We all can appreciate the very real anxiety that the Prime Minister and Carrie have been through in the past few weeks. Unimaginable anxiety. I really hope that this brings them incredible relief and joy" - Starmer.

To be fair Dave, Corbyn wished the Queen a happy birthday a few years ago when asked if he was a Republican. He deflected the question knowing he would get slaughtered if said anything even remotely anti-monarchy. Corbyn, like myself, is an ardent Republican, but sometimes you have to tread carefully.
That said, Starmer should be blitzing the government over lack of PPE, the effects of austerity and Thatcherism on the NHS and the lack of an industrial place to produce much needed items like ventilators and PPE.

Politics aside, I would imagine that any expectant mother whose partner has had CV would be a bit worried like.

Not really. A weak opposition can result in a complacent and/or arrogant government, and it comes naturally to some Tories (and I voted Tory). The second John Major government is the perfect example, what a disaster they were.

Not so. You will find I have always said on here that I want a strong opposition, it keeps everyone on their toes. The last one was useless.....

"Theresa May's government from 2017 to 2019 was defeated on 33 divisions in the House of Commons. Furthermore, to prevent recorded defeats, May's government typically whipped to abstain on non-binding Opposition Day motions it did not envisage winning on division."

"Boris Johnson's government in 2019 until the general election in December was defeated on 12 divisions in the House of Commons."

But ok.

Pratting around with Brexit votes, and the reason that Boris then won a massive majority......

Did the Queen deploy a plan to allow this country to face a virus head on without a chance of dealing with it and saving thousands of lives?

Starmer's words were a kick in the balls to anyone who's been dramatically effected by this crisis, a crisis increased massively by the actions of the scum he was wishing well to.

Those words will come back to haunt Starmer. In the teeth of a Johnson inspired catastrophe he licks his boots. As craven a political act as I can remember.
