From what I saw it was just Hunt asking questions of Hancock via video link, nobody else was involved. The BBC, to me, now appear to be the propaganda arm of the Conservative Party since Johnson threatened to pull the plug on the licence fee. Money talks.
I noticed from his screen that HanCOCK had people on that Zoom conference on 'mute'.

Says it all.

I thought she sat on the fence on major issues. Offered this failing government a lifeline on 'contradictory' viewpoints on face masks. She knows as well as anyone that if ALL people wear them they have an impact...a dramatic one.

I'd be VERY surprised if the government weren't dictating who gets on Question Time.

Buckland the Tory on that panel was frightening in his attitude....which shouldn't surprise anyone given that he's overseen a catastrophe in the Prisons of this country. A monstor of a man.

Think this has been the case for some time, same goes for questions too.
Switched to Channel 4 now due to the BBC's strange take on impartiality, bet Kuensberg is loving this.

...no, they covered the whole committee live on news channels from about 10.30am. Cross-Party MPs asking questions of the Secretary of State. No conspiracy theory, just the democratic process in play.

it would be funny if Hancock agreed to do a Q&A with his predecessor.

Didn't realise it was a conference........Eggs you were right mate, I should have watched it for longer.
It did seem to focus mainly on those two though from what I saw.

CH4 News is the only outlet that even makes a nod in the direction of journalism.

We aren't far off North Korean levels of elite worship in this country. Now we have the banana rebublic response to this virus that underlines that point.

Egggsactly!

...I wouldn’t defend Hancock, but that might be lots to do with logistics. I’ve chaired many video conferences myself, and it’s fine allowing folk to speak at will, but this was a Select Committee with each MP having their turn asking questions in agreed categories.

MPs were at home or in their offices, it would’ve been calamity if noise was coming through from various bases. I doubt Hancock had anything to do with putting the mute buttons on.

I think it says more about you dave

After using Skype, Zoom and MS teams for meetings over the past couple of weeks I can easily reassure you that common courtesy is to mute your mic whilst the chair is speaking. Mainly because the audio is kin awful and picks up on every little background noise making it almost impossible to hear anything

I don't understand how it has come to this though. If it was Labour who had implemented Austerity and then totally failed to bring the deficit down can you imagine what would be said on these very pages, exactly the same could be said about the shambolic handling of this epidemic and the lies by the PM and Health Secretary. Yet people vote for this. I don't get it.

It's like a perverse "treat em mean, keep em keen" thing.

My missus I think does the same Eggs. She works for local government and is working from home, when she is on a conference call for the daily update from directors she has her laptop on mute, she can still hear everyone but they can't hear any background noise from her end (like me in and out the kitchen stuffing my face) they do the update in order and when it's her turn she then unmutes. (if that's what you're on about mate)

I thought she done well to be honest but I agree the Tory was hopeless.
They Tory mps have definitely been told to answer every question by telling us all what a wonderful job the front line NHS staff have been doing , we know all that how about telling us exactly when you are going to do something about it.

I understand the free pass the Tories get. After 40 years of neo-liberalism and the elevation of the individual over community, most people are battered and dazed by the falling edifice of that paradigm collapsing on top of them. They just dont know how to react yet other than to glumly plod on. The LP under Corbyn offered an alternative view of the world and it broke through the darkness before the Brexit farago buried its enlightnement.

Once people have gained some stability after this crisis they'll be rationalising all that's happened under the Tories and New Labour. A political-economy has failed them utterly and there'll be no more acceptance of it. The Murder in Chief in Number 10 thinks he can sit the crisis out and be untouched. He's deluded though. He and the rest of his class will be mullered after this industrial scale murder.

No, it wasn't self muting. HanCOCK muted the participant(s). He was the host.

Maybe he didn't want a repeat of this and to a Tory as well
