Sorry, I must be thick. But I just dont understand the point you are making. I have not got a clue what any newspaper has said about Corbyn or Johnson, But my own evaluation is that one is an over promoted student union debater who has firm convictions but has never been in a position to do anything else but violently agree with like minded folk, and the other is a liar.

The point is that, in a modern media world where exposure matters more than argument, having both sides of a debate repeat your talking points over and over again is actually something that a campaign wants to have. All the media is talking about is Boris forcing through Brexit - not that he has almost completely wrecked the Tory Party in seven weeks, or that he cannot get any bit of legislation past the Commons, or who funds him, or that he tells whoppers constantly. That is why his poll numbers are either stable or going up - he in an abstract way they are telling everyone he is doing what he promised to do (even though he hasn't done anything yet and may not do it at all).

As for Corbyn, I think that evaluation of yours kind of betrays how much negative things there are about him floating around for people to read, even if they don't directly read it in the papers.

I say that because it is kind of odd to come up independently with this idea that he is "an over-promoted student union debater" when Corbyn never went to university, when he stayed in a party that moved considerably to the right over the years (and challenged it repeatedly, often from a point of him being right and them being wrong), and when he did win a leadership election - in the face of opponents who were apparently more able, better organized, better supported and more in tune with the public than he is - managed to cure the party's financial problems in a few months and then got a better election result than they had got in 15 years.

Or to put it another way - why is "an over-promoted student union debater" still there after three years of the most relentless attacks?

I have just found this, a LSE study on journalistic representation of Corbyn in his first few months of Labour leader:

Edit, an article from the author of the study:

The Dangerous Hero......= Corbyn.......
