Why? I was born a Christian in England. In Africa there are Christians who are currently waging war against others. Would the stop because I’m the same religion (notionally) as them.

People are going a long way to defend a scumbag.

I agree with you, but Muslims in the UK are expected to be against Isis etc....just look at the news over the past week.

I could say exactly the same about the way the Palestinians are treated by the state of Israel.
I’d missed the last part out before I edited it. Without articulation.

Again, there’s people carrying out ghastly things in the name of groups that we are a part of, be it race, nationality, gender, sexuality or religion. We don’t need to articulate disgust at them just because we are part of that group to be in the clear.

Like I said, I do agree with what's being said in this thread. It is racist to label all jews racist for the cruel acts of the Israeli Government.

I think the problem is people have become exasperated by the way the Israeli Government seems to be able to act with impunity. Unfortunately, Jewish people who aren't involved become scapegoats.

They're not obligated, of course not. But i'm not obligated to object to a British government imposing an apartheid state in this country, nor would anyone be.

It'd sort of help if we did object though.
Why do compare yourself and the British state with a random man or woman who happens to be Jewish and the state of Israel? As i said before, every single Jewish person I know is English/British, have never visted Israel and have as much connection to it as you or I do. They would condemn the BRITISH state when they think it's done wrong because they're BRITISH.

Its nonsense to say they should speak out, its like asking every Muslim to speak out againt the state of Saudi Arabia or every Christan to speak out againt whatever hell hole country with terrible human rights you want to name that also practices Christianity.

But if enough people lobbied the UK government to withdraw any foreign aid or block arms trades with said Christian groups then maybe change could be effected. Passively sitting on your hands can be seen as condoning a situation.

That’s were we disagree then. If the English started treating the Welsh the way the Israelis have treated the Palestinians and someone french called for English people to stand up against it, I don’t think that would make the french guy racist or prejudiced against English people.

Yes it would.

Have to say, it's been an eye opener this...

I wonder if it's ever been considered that it's accidental anti-semitism that's the problem, because they don't actually know what it is, and whether greater education rather than outright eradication is the better solution?

indeed, it is also very difficult to educate someone who genuinely believes they arent being antisemitic

It certainly makes the case for education as well as punishment, at least when we are talking about party members / officials coming out with this.

Lot of respect for you dropping partisan politics on this issue and just looking at it objectively. Honestly brilliant.

Thanks, but honestly every left wing person I know personally is saying this as well. It is just that some people cannot understand the implications of what they are saying, not out of malice in many cases.

I hold all my ire for the state of Israel, not Jews (Israelis or otherwise). And to bring ISIS into it is moot. They are a terrorist group, outlawed by most world states. Israel is a legitimate state with diplomatic ties all around the world. It's our obligation to hold Nation states to a higher account than terrorist groups. Same goes for Palestine, I may add.
