No, you’re completely changing the context. A statement on Twitter like that is more of a rallying cry to help with the plight of Palestinian people and i’ve already said that Hatton should’ve said ‘people of Israel’ rather than Jews.

If an Everton fan on twitter urged Evertonians to condemn our players spitting at others I wouldn’t take any offence to that. I’d agree.

No, Hatton would have been wrong to say that as well. People do not “need” to condemn anything they are not responsible for, nor are they responsible for it just because someone else thinks they are in the same group as the person responsible.

If Hatton has said “What the IDF is doing in Gaza is a disgrace”, that would not be anti Semitic. It becomes anti Semitic when he starts down the road of suggesting that the Jews could stop what the IDF was doing in Gaza.

Lot of respect for you dropping partisan politics on this issue and just looking at it objectively. Honestly brilliant.

That’s were we disagree then. If the English started treating the Welsh the way the Israelis have treated the Palestinians and someone french called for English people to stand up against it, I don’t think that would make the french guy racist or prejudiced against English people.

And if Hatton was asking Israelis to stand up and speak out againt Israel, it wouldn't be anti-semitic. He didn't though did he? He said "Jewish people" as though they are all part of the Israel state by default. I don't know what Jewish people Hatton is acquainted with but all the ones I know are 100% English and proud of it and they're about as responsible for Israel's actions as you, me or anyone else on here.

I’ve already made the point that that’s what he should’ve said.

Why should a Jewish person have to "speak out" againt the state of Israel as though they were connected to it or it's crimes?

They don't have to do anything. Why should they have to justify or explain themselves to anyone for crimes they personally haven't commited?

Bit more nuanced than that. I think if Jewish people from different countries spoke up then Israel's oppressive apartheid state would lose (some of) its legitimacy. Yes it's nothing to do with them really.....but they could help massively if they told Israel's government that bombing children isn't on.

And who else do you think could reign in the Israeli Government? The US?

Why? I was born a Christian in England. In Africa there are Christians who are currently waging war against others. Would the stop because I’m the same religion (notionally) as them.

People are going a long way to defend a scumbag.

Israel is different though isn't it. If I was a Christian and Christians had been given a piece of land because we're gods chosen people and that piece of land was made especially for us then I'd have a stake in that country in a way I don't in Uganda, for example.

No it's not. It really is very black and white, an English/French/Greman/ect man or woman who happens to be a Jew is in no way, shape or form obligated to condemn a state that they have no connection to anymore then you or I am. By suggesting that they do, you are implying that are a part of that state/group or at least have connections to or influences within it.

They're not obligated, of course not. But i'm not obligated to object to a British government imposing an apartheid state in this country, nor would anyone be.

It'd sort of help if we did object though.
