if this independent group do start a party are they actually as big a threat to tories as they are labour?

No not really, at least in the early stages.

For every 9 voters they tear away from Labour in their seats there'll be one Tory at best. And by and large the seats they're in are in Labour strongholds anyway, so that vote loss for the Tories isn't as big a factor.

Long term, the danger to the Tories is that they bleed votes to the centre ground if they continue to veer right, and the natural inclination of this Independent Group is to coalition with Labour. But you're talking a good five years or so and the likelihood of them existing at that point is negligible.

If they do it they will probably do it on the drip to try to cause maximum damage.

Kin rats the lot of them.

Absolutely, mate. The sooner the lot of them are booted out of parliament never to be seen again the better.

Haven't even got the balls to announce any policies because they know there's literally no appetite for what they're offering.

The appeal of centre left and indeed centre right politics far outstrips that of the far left.

It's a silent majority that isn't screaming into the Twitter echo chamber. The average working and middle class family where Corbyn's appeal to them is minimal.

Except that´s not quite true is it? Centre left parties across Europe: decimated.

Last three election results for Labour proves you utterly wrong.

How so? They went up against the centre-right.

If the Tories continue to veer to the hard right and ignore the metropolitan areas of the country completely, they'd be decimated by a centre-left government. Indeed, the only reason they even have the remotest chance of re-election right now is because of Jeremy Corbyn.

Oh come on, did you not watch Balls and Miliband for 5 years? Are you completely oblivious to what is happening around the western world?

Those policies aren't the sole domain of the hard left.

I think all of those things should be nationalised too. But the difference is I'd add the caveat "if possible without bankrupting the country and risking jobs."

That's the key - 'normal' people just want someone who isn't a complete loon to get on with being PM. They go for the sensible; the competent.

Tell me this - why are Labour's policies popular but Jeremy Corbyn is massively unpopular in every poll you care to look at? Are you really just going to blame the media for that, or be prepared to look at it properly and analyse why?

...and made more ground in that election than any centre-right party.

Tubey: you aren't making sense. Maybe it's time to have a rest and then put your thinking cap on tomorrow?

If you rarely engage with politics and get your snippets of news from an overwhelmingly hostile media why would you have anything other than a negative viewpoint of Corbyn?

Whilst I think that, I also believe Corbyn is no Obama. He´s not going to win personality contests but once election time rolls around policies take centre stage and you can get your message through to the public.
