I might be totally wrong but I thought the cancelled contracts numbered 30 out of 350 uk deals in total .You mean 9% of UK exports or total?
Wouldn’t suprise me if I was wrong mind

The government has taken the decision that the UK will suspend arms export licences to Israel for use in military operations in Gaza, following a review of Israel’s compliance with international humanitarian law.
- government announces immediate suspension of around 30 licences for items used in the current conflict in Gaza which go to the IDF, from a total of approximately 350 licences to Israel

So yeah but that feels a bit like saying there are loads of burglaries so if the police arrest one what’s the point .This is interesting

UK suspends 30 arms export licences to Israel – but it won’t change much in the war in Gaza
However, signals do matter, especially when seen as part of a broader international shift.theconversation.com
Just 1% of Israel's military spending goes to the UK, so even if we stopped everything, it's not going to really change much, which I suppose is the thing. Whether we say "great bunch of lads, on you go" or "bunch of shits, pack it in" isn't really going to make much difference as we're not important.
Oh, I quite agree, and don't have any truck with people calling for the government to say the Israeli government are being awful. Not at all. It just confuses me that people seem to elect British politicians due to their stance on that above all else.So yeah but that feels a bit like saying there are loads of burglaries so if the police arrest one what’s the point .
I think regardless of the number of our arms trading morally if you’re doing it whether you sell one rocket or 1 million you have a responsibility.
The Israelis are "being awful".
Is this the worse attempt at goading in GOT history?
Shameful.
44,000 murdered.

I said what?Remember when you described the persecution of the Uyghur Muslims by the CCP as “ a bit rotten “ ?
By your friends blah blah
That’s not quite what is being proposed. They are looking at potentially scrapping short prison sentences (6 months or less) which women are more likely to be in for than men. The rule will apply to everyone but it will likely result in fewer women getting sentences than men. But a man and woman committing the same offence will be treated the same.Fewer women are to be sent to prison under new sentencing guidelines according to The Guardian (apologies unable to link).
Surely the very definition of a gender biased policy if so.
Disgraceful if so. Do the crime, do the time. Men are already unfairly discriminated against with regards to sentencing.
Whether or not sentencing works is not on the issue, the punishment should be equal no matter the sex of the convicted

Fewer women may go to jail in England and Wales in sentencing review
Review to examine scrapping short sentences and treating more offenders in the community, with prisons filling up againwww.theguardian.com
What to know what you type when multiple people use this accountI said what?

I don’t know and it probably is for another thread. But just wanted to clarify that the policy is not specifically being suggested to just apply to women who have offended. I have no idea whether women get more lenient sentences than men for the same offences. It's probably a whole other thread to be honest but I believe a major reason women would be in that category to begin with is because they are already sentenced more leniently compared to men.
