Did anyone of sound mind and body expect Starmer or the Labour government to be able to do or say anything different after the absolute car crash of 14 years of Tory self servitude and corruption, Jam tomorrow politics that’s we’ve had to suffer?

We knew it was a mess; we knew it’s going to take painful decisions and time to fix; a bit of honesty is what we need from our government, even though it might upset the tik-tok generation of halfwits and the Tory sleazebags and Tory voters, who have got away with murder for over a decade.

What we need is some sign that he actually understands what the problem is with finances and is taking the measures necessary to fix things.

Taking the railways back into public ownership is a good step, as is talking about building many more social housing units but there needs to be much more and it needs to be set out in the Budget. End PFI, reduce outsourcing and buying in services from consultants, freeze MPs pay.

Does that include the unemployed…..
There are very few actual unemployed these days, roughly 2m last time I checked and all those people have to be actively seeking work.

Its not the sit at home do nothing and get paid holiday it used to be.

There are also 10million people who are economically inactive, these people are a mixture of students, people on the sick, the early retired and the people who have to care for others.

I dont currently work, thats a choice the Wife and I made a long time ago, but that allows me to be a full time carer for my Grandson which allows my daughter to go out and work. I dont receive a single penny from anybody for that.

Its 2024, the days of benefit scroungers sitting at home getting paid ended a long time ago now, those that currently get help, need help.

This is such a disappointing post. You've dispelled the image I had of @peteblue's pub being like the Jocky from Shameless, with Pete drawing from real life case studies to frame his argument.

I too am a full time unpaid career and it’s a good thing you are doing…..

Is Starmer giving his 60 grand suits back to Oxfam ? After getting them for nothing of an ex Torie donor then ?

He Here you are though @Joey66. When you said about roofers being unable to have a second career. Danny Blanchflower has gone from Spurs midfielder to economist. Just requires some grit and imagination.
He probably uses Google like you .... I have written to Keir asking for road tax & insurance for the over 18s on bikes like you, what an earner that would be - speed fines etc .....

I don’t know about that mate, my waste of oxygen sister, has managed to stay unemployed for her whole adult life - she’s 53 now.

No matter how they try to force her to look for work, she manages to get around it - usually by inventing an illness.

It’s deffo become much harder to stay long term unemployed, but the expert scroungers, like my sister are impossible to dislodge off benefits ( imo )

I'm sure, in the politest way possible, he'll tell you that "road tax" doesn't exist, and vehicles are instead taxed according to the emissions they produce. Bicycles, therefore, pay as much tax as vehicles that also produce zero emissions.

No thats fair, there are ways for sure, I know I could probably do the same, if I wanted, but meh, not for me that.

They speed though - cause many accidents - go through the lights on red - no insurance - at the age of 18 years old on the road they should have number plates & insurance at the minimum & get done for speeding an old lady in a park got killed by such a cyclist last year ....
