Spot on that observation...

It should draw criticism, especially where similar practice has been highlighted as cronyism.

I think the point, which seems to be missed on Yellands tweet (which makes it very easy to dismiss) is that attack lines on twitter have had a homophobic or racist edge to them..rather than simply focusing on the hypocrisy.

No I don’t think that they were doing a good job over the last couple of years. Truss wrecked the economy, Sunak appointed an idiot as Chancellor, inflation ran riot. However the economy and inflation was all moving in the right direction for whoever took over.

The economy was/is growing and is in decent shape, public finances are a shambles and unfortunately caving in to the vested interest unions will only make that worse, while the taxation that will come along to pay for it will also slow down the economy, worst of both worlds.

I have no problem with the fact that Labour won the election, a vote is a vote and should be adhered to. That won’t however stop me pointing out absolute stupid acts, such as the raid on OAP’s…..l

Just as point of order. The growth was 0% at the election month. In an inflationary environment we essentially had stagflation.

And vested interest groups, what you are actually referring to are working people, who keep the country running.

I don't want wealthier OAPs to have further payments cut. But I do also think at some point a government has to prioritise those in work, not those out of work.

The fundamental problem for Jones, who in my mind is a snake, is that the identity politics was always this at its core. A diversion away from structural, class based politics and was always to be appropriated by post-modern/liberal types.

Jones has been a key driver of this. This isn't some bastardized version of identity politics. It's the inevitable end point of it.

I think they wanted a quid pro quo. Increase in pay, but improvements, minor or large, in working practices. Starmer just paid the money without any work practice changes, especially so with the train drivers as an example. No government will sort out the NHS until they change the management structure and many of its comfy layers of bureaucracy imo.
As I said, public finance is a shambles and tbh I can’t see how Starmer and Reeves, with the NEC and Unions on their backs, will improve it. But we’ll find out from the drip, drip, drip, of blaming everything bar the weather on the Tories, either today or October……

The thing is, the country loses our due to strikes. The job of a government is to resolve them. Listen to Peter Hitchens on this stuff, who is a died in the wool Tory but grasps the stupidity of needlessly allowing strikes to continue.

In life you have to compromise and do deals.

I’ve explained all this but you guys refuse to accept it had nothing to do with the economy and everything to do with getting rid of backstabber Sunak. Farage managed to get nearly half the votes that Starmer did, ask yourself why……

Maybe you should ask why Farage won 5 seats, Labour won about 200 and Lib Dems 70 odd.

And why Sunaks approval ratings were far higher than Johnson's?

Unfortunately evidence dispels your narrative.

No doubt it has. But the Owen Jones point more generally is a good shout.

Look at the way Streeting in particular have hidden behind identity politics - someone in a position of power who has conducted an ideological purge of the left and now stands on the cusp of handing over the keys of the NHS to institutional investors.

He's absolutely all over the place in his opinion. It shifts by the hour.

He's consistently called out and opposed austerity.

Handing Starmer's lot his backing was poor judgment, but he's a bellwether in this instance. He's seen early doors now that there was no Trojan Horse strategy to get in power and shift left. Austerity really is the policy on offer. He deserves commending for that.

Yes that's very true.

But - and I think this was Jones' point - the cynical appropriation of that type of politics (and most people who espouse it are the powerless, let's not forget) by the elite has led to the cementing of class inequality.

I dont mind Owen Jones. Compare him with that utter rat Mason.

Does that include the unemployed…..

Of course, you do deals. What you don’t do is throw money at them for no return, which is where we are now…

It’s our first past the post system, very simple…Farage got more than half a million votes more than the LibDems…surely you understand this evidence…or maybe not……
