You have to see how open you are to accusations of hypocrisy when you supported previous Tory spending cuts, affecting (among others) people on disability benefits and low income families.
Posters in here will likely feel that you’re using this as a stick to beat Labour with, rather than any real concern for others
I'd argue that's not just Pete. There's a good many who were clapping their feet when previous government's were going on about reducing the welfare bill, being tough on benefits, shrinking the state...

Well. Here we are. Ohhhhhh, but not these benefits.

If this is all they have on Labour so far then Starmer is doing a decent job.

That’s actually a good question, if we as a country need to tighten our belts across the board then fair enough. And we will all experience it again come the budget. But there are always those that need protection, and I’m not talking about train drivers. Of course at my age I have an ‘affinity’ with other retired folk because I’m closer to the issues. Unlike other age groups they cannot simply work extra hours or take up additional jobs due to being a bit more frail and with employers always opting for the young which is to be expected. A great many of them, millions in fact, need and deserve additional protection. What is galling in the extreme is this obvious political gesture of robbing the poor who cannot work to give to those in well paid jobs.

I will happily pay my taxes as I always have done, but there has to be a degree of fairness from government towards those who are simply incapable of helping themselves and that’s what I’m upset about…..
It's interesting that for other groups you advise seeking out other forms of assistance via banks/loans, family, tightening belts and sacrifice. Why would you not advocate those in this instance?

The elderly are capable of helping themselves, you have have routinely lauded the resilience/common sense of the elderly over the modern generation. Now you're painting this group as lacking any agency or capability.

Likewise for those who have suggested struggle in the past you have implied that they may be seeing the consequences of their poor decisions - are the elderly exempt from that purely because they are the group you identify with?

Not been reported - Starmer's has you cannot defend a socialist party leader for using that amount on suits - as a gift from an ex Tory supporter ...... They are all the same not voting ever again for LABOUR .....
You didn't want the socialism of McDonnel and Corbyn as it would return us to the socialism of the 70s, Starmer isn't socialist enough for you because he accepts donations from Tory donors

So you were considering voting for a coalition minister now leading the Liberals or privately educated, former Tory Party member and leader of a political party entirely funded by anti climate change millionaires/billionaires?

I am honestly surprised that most are giving Labour such an easy ride just because they're not the Tories. 14 years of complete ballsing it up ain't going to be reversed by blind support.

Having said that, they sure got left carrying the can. If they get us back to square one of 14 years ago after one term in office then they will have exceded my expectations.

In my case its not really about support, we all knew it wasnt an easy fix.

So im just gonna have a look in 3 years and if things are worse, then, whoopsie, if not, we go again.

In his donated 60 grand donated suits ... some socialist
Joey mate, I don't think we've had a truly socialist Labour party for many a year. Not in power, that's for sure. Corbyn's era was the closest, but lots of their policies wouldn't really be considered too far removed from soft social democratic parties in Europe.

The Starmer-Llamas are, as I've said before in here, very weak Social-Democrats, of the Blairite tradition.

Socialism is a failed experiment.

Its beyond flawed and its certainly not going to work in this economy.
