Then why give inflation busting pay rises to certain public sector personnel…
For get that some of them deserved rises, but It was a one way negotiation - just fold by the Government eg - if the junior doctors pass out as to surgeons or GPs - a five-year service minimum, or they pay their training back if it is subsidised ?

Also, the teachers they could have been tied in to a longer contract .....

My son takes a Microsoft exam his firm pay for it - if he leaves inside 12 months in his contract - he has to pay all the fees on courses or exam fees back in full - it is automatically deducted in his 3-month leaving pay .....

After 12 months that is terminated until his next training etc - it entices loyalty .....

This Labour lot just rolled over - with more threatened rail strikes & they paid them in full FGS

I see Harriet Harman in now being involved in the OAP fuel dispute - It's too harsh - but wait for the excuse labour wanted 800, 000 pensioners to come forward to rightly claim that allowance - do they realise with perks its worth £5400 per year net - no tax - an excuse , but they are correct, but they should be on it automatically in the world of IT computers - not a 20-page booklet to fill in & the CAB cut to the bone .....

Evidently the help line you can wait 4-5 hours to just get through .... I had that problem to just claim my OAP pension -

also are you aware there are two rates of payment on pensions - the older pension's part of it is passed on to the living partner - the new pension much higher - it can't be passed on -

A gimmick by the Tories to stop what was called the widow pension ....

When I was at work I was full aware my NI taxes were paying OAPs pensions - as that's how it has mostly been - it is grotesque that rich people get an OAP pension & perks - Martin Lewis reckons the fairest way is after band D on the council tax list they should not get anything ..... a fair assumption ?

I did my PGCE during my PhD and it was enough of an 'experience' to put me off teaching forever. Not enough pay. Horrible conditions. Frustrating limitations as to what you can and cannot do with the syllabus, micromanagement, and having to deal with student's parents. Anyone who sticks with that profession is akin to a saint to me.

I used to be a school governor and the local authorities were always attempting to micromanage everything while also sneaking in whatever political flavour of the month was around. I note that Labour are now pushing Inclusivity and Diversity plus Environmental education (to help foster a generation of environmentally conscious individuals). You would think that in the western world we could work out what our children really need to learn, but how much transfer of approach across say USA, EU and U.K. takes place I don’t know. What I do know is that it will all change again depending on the colour of the next few governments….

Retired, quit, moved to other professions, moved overseas, died, moved into the arms trade, bought pubs, became YouTube influencers...

The point is they aren't staying in teaching and they aren't being attracted to the profession.

Should we give pensioners that teacher money and neglect our younger generation?

Perhaps entice pensioners into the teaching profession…..

Easy. Raise the retirement age to 72 and get 7 more years of work out of them.

Although this comes to mind:

I would go back part-time to pass my Horticultural skills on, practically that is propagation I could not stand to watch football today , so I put in with my wife's help over 100 osteospermum cuttings - autumn is setting in time to cut hedges too - My wife & son will do that for me - get the growth back before winter -

I was lucky - I was trained properly at work & at technical college - it's University nowadays = a massive debt...... & not a University of life ....

Retiring early? That's great, he won't be needing the heating money, he's planned his life out well. In all seriousness trades are fantastic ways to make yourself rich, very well paying sectors.

Mate he has sent all his kids to private school worked all over Europe as a great sparky - he is minted he is someone who will not need an OAP ....
I am hoping he will build me two extensions - before he retires - I was talking to him one day's work in Banbury the other Friday - £480 clear profit on his own for 1/2 a day's work - claimed his tax back on his mileage .... job was cash in hand too ...

Just out of curiosity, is there a GCSE in horticulture?

Legit don't know. Only found out the other day there are T-Levels. What the hell are they?

I made that point above...

Around 40000 teachers leave each year and recruitment rates for teachers are the lowest they've ever been. It's been widely reported.

Maybe some of the recently retired could be persuaded to rejoin and dole out some common sense and traditional values. It could be a way to reduce their home heating bills this winter.

But, it's the lack of attention to detail and reading comprehension you've just demonstrated which makes me think it might not be such a good idea.
