the vanity of the Mayor and will be wasted along with the rest of his money making schemes

Pete, whilst your claims about Khan are questionable at best, this is LITERALLY your boy at work in the exact same role:

Nothing BUT "vanity" and "money wasted". A disaster for London, a disaster for the nation.

I know you are a specialist in being wrong, but on this you have excelled yourself.

ULEZ is that rare thing in modern British politics - a policy that has actually delivered more benefits than it promised. Air quality is improved, far fewer people have to pay it than the liars claimed would, and we are already seeing improvements in public health.
To be fair,it's too soon for there to have been any in depth studies to prove that public health has improved. Lots of anecdotal evidence, but too short a time for anything conclusive.

(Imperial have done a lot of research into this)

I'm fairly sure they meant that assessment had been limited, "until" this new study, which looked at low emission zones not just in London but globally, so is pretty comprehensive.
My point was that since the London zone was put in place there hasn't been enough time for robust impartial data to be collected.
For decades it's been believed the the internal combustion engine in the average car is at its most efficient at a 55 mph. Now allegedly it's less polluting at 20 mph.🤔. It's becoming more difficult by the day to find any impartial scientific articles.
This quote in the link was interesting.
"While interventions such as LEZs can go some way to reducing these impacts, measuring their impact on health outcomes is difficult"

Do you own a car ?…..

How do they know this ?

“Air pollution caused 40,000 deaths in the UK in 2019 – around 4,000 of which were in Greater London. Worldwide, outdoor air pollution accounts for around 4.2 million deaths per year due to conditions such as stroke, heart disease, lung cancer, and acute and chronic respiratory diseases.”

Now I live in the countryside, green, fresh air, almost no air pollution. I had a triple bypass, was that pollution or that fact that it’s hereditary in my family; one of my friends currently has Lung Cancer having lived on a farm in mid Wales for years ( his house surrounded by 60 acres of unfarmed land on the side of a mountain) and now living in the same village as myself, is that cancer due to pollution or perhaps one of the myriad conditions that cause it. How do they know that the 40,000 deaths in the U.K. were down to air pollution ?……

It's rare for air pollution to be cited on a death certificate, so researchers instead use what is known: the measure of pollutants in the air; and our understanding of how this increases the risk of various diseases.

So basically those examining air pollution just ‘attributed’ deaths to air pollution. I’m sorry for my scepticism, but too often I’ve seen ‘obvious results and conclusions’ drawn from dubious research where the researchers merely try to prove the result that they set out to prove. Air pollution almost certainly contributes to ill health, but air pollution comes in many forms…how many deaths result from Quarries spewing rock dust up into the atmosphere, how many deaths result from the scrapping of perfectly good vehicles only to be replaced by electric vehicles that produce more pollution during manufacture, delivery and eventual scrappage…there are no easy answers but beware of idiot politicians pushing spurious scientific agendas driven more by collection of taxation than anything else. Remember Brown telling everyone to buy diesel vehicles…..
